Read this passage: "Whose nose have you cut off, you monster?" she screamed, her face red with anger. "You scoundrel! You tipple

r! I myself will report you to the police! Such a rascal! Many customers have told me that while you were shaving them, you held them so tight by the nose that they could hardly sit still." But Ivan Jakovlevitch was more dead than alive; he saw at once that this nose could belong to no other than to Kovaloff, a member of the Municipal Committee whom he shaved every Sunday and Wednesday. . . . And Ivan Jakovlevitch was silent. The thought that the police might find him in unlawful possession of a nose and arrest him, robbed him of all presence of mind. Already he began to have visions of a red collar with silver braid and of a sword and he trembled all over. Nikolai Gogol, "The Nose" What inference can you make from this passage from "The Nose"? A. That Ivan's wife loves him and wishes he were a braver man B. That Ivan is often blamed for things that are not his fault C. That Ivan dislikes Kovaloff and is glad his nose was cut off D. That Kovaloff is a kind person and didn't deserve to lose his nose

Describe the incident with the vanilla ice cream. Why was it so upsetting for Nilda?
lyudmila [28]

Explanation:

As Sophie informed her that they'll get ice cream today, then Nilda was quite enthusiastic and assured Sophie how she would enjoy vanilla ice cream, Nilda was thinking that they'll get some healthy food today. They saw it put in bins, and Nilda got much more interested. Nilda was delighted to reveal a strawberry ice cream at the flat, and sat down to taste it. It sounded strange from ice cream with vanilla.

It was doughy, sticky and slippery as she placed it in her teeth. She spit it out, remembering that it was vegetable oil, not vanilla ice cream. Nilda was really irritated.

The narrator’s description of the colonel during the reception leads the reader to conclude that—
katovenus [111]

The narrator's description of the colonel during the reception leads the reader to conclude that:

D. the colonel inspires great fear among the townspeople.

The passage to which this question refers to can be found online. It belongs to the story "The Refusal," by Bohemian writer Franz Kafka (1883-1924).

The narrator of the story is a boy who describes how his town is controlled by an authoritarian government.

The colonel is also the town's tax-collector. Whenever the townspeople need anything, it is the colonel they address. However, as the narrator describes, the reception by the colonel is quite a sight to see.

The people go see the colonel, who stands upright, barely moving, breathing deeply, and saying nothing. The one person chosen to speak on behalf of the others is so intimidated by the colonel that he seems about to faint.

Thus, we can clearly see that the colonel inspires fear among the townspeople. Although they do talk to him, it is with great effort and anxiety. Once it is all over with, the people sigh in relief and leave.
