Bogdan [553]

Answer:

Freedom and slavery in Byzantine society:

The Eastern Roman Empire or the Byzantium was the extension of the Roman Empire and they considered slavery as legal in their empire. Byzantium slaves included the prisoners from war and they were made to work as slaves in home and in churches. The law of nations introduce a division into three kinds of men freeman, and in opposition to them slaves, and thirdly freed men who had ceased to be slaves.

Slaves were in the power of the masters a power to life in the law of nations for among all nations it may be remarked that masters have the power of life and death over there slaves and that everything acquired by the slave is acquired for the master.

During the period the transition from slave to freemen took place by calling the slave to free labor and employing them in various fields and some even started to seek self-employment. Slaves may be may be manumitted by their masters at any time.

The Wizard of Oz and War of the Worlds were both escapist fantasies. How were they alike and different?
Bad White [126]

                                          Similarities and difference

Both the Wizard of Oz and the the War of Worlds are fictional and escapist stories that put you right in the feet of the main characters and experience a world that is far from real.

In the Wizard of Oz, you follow Dorthy and her magical friends who help her along in her journey. In War of the Worlds, you see the invasion of earth by advanced aliens and experience the raw emotions of that character, his survival instincts and the danger he experiences.

However, apart from the similarities, they are actually very different. Wizard of Oz can be described as a family-friendly story that kids would love. However, War of Worlds is full of violence, blood, and gore. The tone is far more serious and suitable for adults.

What is the problem that Friedan outlines?
xz_007 [3.2K]
Betty Friedan was an early leader of the feminist movement in the United States.  Her important book, published in 1963, argued that women in America were being misled into an unfulfilling and unhappy way of life.  They were made to believe that fulfillment and happiness as a woman came from being a wife, mother, homemaker.  But Friedan's studies of women showed that women were not happy just from that, that they were hungering for something else.  Their whole identity was coming from their roles or relationships to others in the home, not from who they actually were themselves.
Friedan's book challenged the existing patterns that existed in American society and pushed for women to have more of their own value for their own sake.  As she said (in chapter one):  "We can no longer ignore the voice within women that says, 'I want something more than my husband and my children and my home.'"
