Sentences punctuated correctly: 4

Jaden’s favorite fruits are: bananas, apples, and grapes.

There were several activities offered at the park: hiking, rock-climbing, and swimming.

I plan to invite: Maya, Randi, and Asher to my birthday party.

Makoto told me she has visited three countries: India, Peru, and Germany.

All of these 4 sentences have a colon when needed (it introduces several items in the sentence) and the commas separate the items in the sentence, which is one of its functions. It is important to clarify that in all of these sentences the last comma placed (between the final two items linked by the word "and") is optional, that is to say, without that last comma, the sentence would still be correct.

Sentences punctuated incorrectly: 1

She enjoys reading many kinds of books; graphic novels, fantasy novels and mysteries.

In this sentence, there's a semicolon introducing several items ("graphic novels, fantasy novels and mysteries.") and that's not what semicolons are for. Its main function is to join two or more ideas in a sentence. A colon should be there instead.

Write a paragraph in which you compare and contrast how the poets use topic, rhyme scheme, and figurative language to convey the
Temka [501]

Both use couplets for their rhyme scheme and structure.

Both use figurative language to express hope that the subject will be rewarded in heaven for good deeds.

Bradstreet’s topic is love and marriage, while Wheatley’s topic is King George III.

Bradstreet uses more nature imagery than Wheatley, which connects to the poem’s topic.

schepotkina [342]

Your question is missing the options. I've found the complete question online. It is as follows:

Anne Bradstreet was a Puritan who lived during Colonial America. Her poems reflected elements of her personal life. In this poem, her house has burned and she has lost all of her possessions. Read the last two stanzas (lines 43-54). How do these lines reflect aspects of her Puritan beliefs?

A) She relies on her own work ethic to build her another house.

B) She is so distraught that she wishes she had died in the fire.

C) She knows that her permanent home is waiting for her in heaven.

D) She prays for an architect from town to come build her a new home.

Answer:

The correct answer is letter C) She knows that her permanent home is waiting for her in heaven.

Explanation:

In the last two stanzas of her poem "Verses upon the Burning of our House, July 10th, 1666", author Anne Bradstreet calls God the mighty Architect. She does not seem to repine over the house she has lost to the fire. Quite the contrary, she is faithful to the belief that her permanent home is the spiritual one waiting for her in heaven. That is a reflection of her Puritan beliefs. This world is nothing but a passageway for the next and most important one. She does not need to suffer over material losses because what truly matters is the spirit. As she says in the last line of the poem, "My hope and treasure lies above."

Consider the information and reading selections you have read about cultural diversity and socioeconomic differences. Write a on
Nataliya [291]

The term "constitution of identity" reflects how we see ourselves as a human being, through our perception of culture, family, relationships and experiences. We must always look for this constitution because it allows us to get to know ourselves better and understand what makes us unique and special.

Based on that, I took the liberty of reflecting on this concept, thinking about what constitutes my identity as an American, and I came to the conclusion that this identity is not linked specifically to the country where I was born, but to the culture that was built in those regions and in the United States. values that have been stimulated by my family for generations.

As we know the entire American continent was colonized and exploited, the Americans had to fight for their freedom and autonomy, as well as fight to establish a culture that reflected their own values and not European values, which did not fit our reality. This struggle in search of the goal, freedom and quality of life has always been very present in my family, from the parents of my grandparents until today, passing from generation to generation. I believe that this family "heritage" brings me closer to the American values that constitute my personality.

This taught me to be persevering, strong, to have confidence and above all to respect the struggle of other people, who have goals like mine, or even different, but who are all focused on always doing the best, like all American countries who do and have done the best for their people.

In short, I came to the conclusion that our formation as Americans is more linked to the concepts that the existence of that continent created, than to geographic location. Our identity, like our continent, teaches us to be strong, sufficient, free and fair, with all those who need it.
