The mystery that makes people keep reading <em>The Metamorphosis</em> by Frank Kafka is why this happened.

One day, Gregor Samsa wakes up transformed into a huge insect. This is an unusual and very strange phenomenon, especially because, at the beginning, the main character is worried about his job and the authorities rather than being worried about his recent metamorphosis. In that way,<u> the reader needs an answer to this phenomenon since the very first page</u>. Furthermore, the story is narrated in third person limited perspective, which increases the reader's interest in the book since <u>the narrator is able to get in Gregor's head and also show his feelings</u>. In that way, <u>the reader comes to understand the character's circumstances along with him</u>. Therefore, for the reader, the most important thing is to find out why Gregor became an insect rather than figuring out who he is or sells or who is the lady in the picture.

I lean more towards (A) because the husband is talking to his wife as a child and not as an adult which tends to describe and condescending attitude. However you could make an argument for (F).

What is the function of the underlined infinitive?
marissa [1.9K]

Answer:

B. Direct Object

Explanation:

A direct object receives the action of a transitive verb. Thus, the infinitive verb <em>to swing</em> is undergoes the action of the verb <em>began</em>.

The rest of the options are incorrect. In the sentence given, <em>to swing</em> does not function as a main verb. Besides, a predicate noun or nominative follows the verb <em>to be</em> and gives information about the subject. Finally, the infinitive verb does not follow a preposition.

Which statement best describes Patrick Henry's use of ethos in this excerpt?
horsena [70]
The answer is "He diminishes the importance of his past, reinforcing the idea that they are all Americans now." The excerpt is entitled "Give me Liberty or Give me Death!". This is all about fighting for the freedom of America from the British colonizers. This is to pursuade the listeners to fight for their country as soon as possible.
