1) Earth's crust is made up of relatively rigid plates that ride atop Earth's hot, semiliquid mantle. (2) The plates are called

tectonic because they're in constant motion. (3) They can move because Earth's mantle is a very hot and semiliquid fluid called magma. (4) Volcanoes are a result of magma rising up or erupting through a plate, particularly where plate boundaries are moving against each other. (5) Also, when plates slide against each other, causing friction along adjacent plate boundaries, earthquakes frequently occur. (6) Therefore, we often find volcanoes and earthquakes along plate boundaries. (7) Plates may also collide. (8) When that happens, mountain ranges are formed. (9) For example, the collision of the plate carrying the Indian subcontinent created the Himalayan Mountains when it collided with the Asian plate. Which statement about this paragraph is accurate?
A. The topic sentence is the found in the last line.
B. There are no supporting details for the main idea.

Select two details from Passage 1 that support the idea that Charlotte County, Florida is appealing to retirees. (Bumps Ahead on
nasty-shy [4]

Answer:

B and D.

Explanation:

'Bumps ahead on easy Street?' is an article written by Marilyn Gardner. The article talks about Charlotte County in Florida which has become an alluring place for retirees to spend their lives.

The County is situated between two western coasts of the state, that is Sarasota and Naples. This view has made the County more attractive for retirees. The weather conditions during winter are warm in the County than northern states.

The idea that supports the claim that Charlotte County has become an attractive place for retirees in paragraph 1 of the text is that it is situated close to beaches and water, and the weather is warmer in the County than northern states.

Thus two options that are correct includes B and D.

How do the results of solitary confinement differ from the overarching goals of the American prison system?
vladimir2022 [97]

I actually have two main sources, plus tad bits that I've learned just researching on the internet.

My first source is one of the Adam Ruins Everything episode on the American Jail systems.

Jails aren't run by the government anymore. Jails, or prisons are money making machines. The government gives them OUR tax money, to keep pretty much innocent people in jail. Why do I say innocent? Because the private jail systems have a minimum amount of people that have to be in their jail. Which means once you enter, they'll keep giving you years for "bad behavior", such as not wanting to mow the lawn for 10 cents an hour.

My second source is a documentary called the "Thirteenth".

Jail systems aren't meant to be places of "rehabilitation". Do you know why? Because back in December 1865, when slavery was no longer legal, former slave owners still need workers to keep their plantations going, but didn't have the money to pay... so here comes our wonderful constitution to the rescue!

The Thirteenth amendment states, "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

AH HA! See, right there, "EXPECT AS PUNISHMENT FOR A CRIME.". That little loop hole made it so that anything a black, yes a black, person did was a crime. Even accusations that weren't true could land them in jail, and back as a slave.

So if you connect the dots right now, the goal of the overarching prison system is not, and was never about "rehabilitation".

Now, I still have some more to say on this subject. Even if you were to ignore how our wonderful prison system got started, there's solitary confinement to think about.

Solitary Confinement makes people insane. Once one person goes in, and then comes out a completely different person than they were, they're an example to the others.

If our government and our jail systems want to rehabilitate people, and help them enter the work force, and of course, stay out of crime, making people unable to care for themselves is not the way to go.

I hope this helps, and sorry for the long answer.

Mrs. Louis could ask Mr.Hollembeak for further details about his findings and report.

The discussion aims to get the thruth about a possible leak of information by not properly encrypted files. Mr. Hollembeak defends himself stating that concerning his knowledge and responsabilities he is innocent of any negligence for his department's security protocol was up to date.

If Mrs. Louis wants to be an effective participant in the discussion she could ask Mr.Hollembeak further details about his findings and report in order to discover any contradictions in his statement and then feel free to move to another topic.
