c. 3 ' hydroxyl of deoxyribose

Further explanation

Phosphodiester bonding occurs when exactly two hydroxyl groups in phosphoric acid react with hydroxyl groups on other molecules to form two ester bonds.

Phosphodiester bonds are the center of all life on Earth because they form the backbone of the nucleic acid strands. In DNA and RNA, phosphodiester bonds are the relationship between carbon at position 3 'from one sugar molecule and carbon atom at position 5' from another atom, deoxyribose in DNA and ribose in RNA. A strong covalent bond is formed between a phosphate group and two rings carbonated carbohydrate 5 (pentose) above two ester bonds.

The phosphate group in the phosphodiester bond is negatively charged. Because phosphate groups have pKa close to 0, they are negatively charged at pH 7. This repulsive force forces the phosphate to take the opposite side of the DNA strand and be neutralized by proteins (histones), metal ions such as magnesium, and polyamines.

In order for the phosphodiester bonds to form and nucleotides to join, the tri-phosphate or di-phosphate form of the nucleotide building blocks is broken to produce the energy needed to drive the enzyme-catalyzed reaction. When one phosphate or two phosphates known as pyrophosphates are released and catalyze the reaction, phosphodiester bonds are formed.

The hydrolysis of phosphodiester bonds can be catalyzed by the action of phosphodiesterase which plays an important role in repairing DNA sequences.

The phosphodiester relationship between two ribonucleotides can be broken by base hydrolysis, whereas the relationship between two deoxyribonucleotides is more stable under these conditions. The relative ease of hydrolysis of RNA is the effect of the presence of a hydroxyl group at position 2 '

During the DNA synthesis via PCR, polymerization occurs in 5’-3’ direction. This means that enzyme DNA polymerase which synthesizes a new DNA strand is complementary to the DNA template strand (3’-5’ direction). 5’ phosphate group of the free nucleotides which are added is attached to the 3'-hydroxyl group at the end of the elongating DNA strand.

nikklg [1K]
I found the attached image on the internet and it really helps complete this exercise.

First question:
In the presence of an enzyme, the course of the reaction is shown by the red curve. The necessary energy to make a reaction occur is less when there is an enzyme to help the reaction happen. Enzymes work as catalysts that act over substrates converting them into different molecules in a much accelerated way then it would happen without the enzyme's help, if it would happen at all.

Second question:
The activation energy is represented by line B. The activation energy is the energy needed to be available for a reaction to happen. If we compare it with line A, which represents the activation energy necessary for a reaction without an enzyme, we can see how much less energy is necessary to dispend when an enzyme is part of the reaction. Line C represents the energy resultant from the reaction.

Anuta_ua [19.1K]

Answer:

Option A

Explanation:

Sperm undergo more mitotic cellular divisions than egg and therefore have a higher risk of developing a spontaneous mutation.

As noted from the explanation given above...in the process of development in males, the sperm cells always undergo many mitotic cellular division throughout their life increasimg the males' chances of undergoing spontaneous mutations as compared to the females during development where it gets to a certain point in their lives where they stop producing egg cells after the once division.

Thus, the continuous divisions undergone by the sperm cells acquire more spontaneous mutations on the cell that produces this lycantrophy trait.

What might happen if you make a hole using a pointed object to any of the two small
balloons?
luda_lava [24]

Answer:If the balloons are filled with air all of the air will try and escape from the balloon out of the hole but if the balloon is filled very tightly with air it will burst because there is too much pressure trying to escape such a small hole so it goes PoP!
