In "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" we encounter a character who embodies the characteristics of the disillusionment that was common during the age of Modernism. Many authors and artists produced art that addressed this common feeling. In this poem, the speaker feels sad with what he has achieved in his life so far. He believes that his best moments are behind him, now that he is not young anymore. Moreover, he is frustrated with what he believes is a stagnant and mediocre life. He reflects on the life of famous historical characters, and suffers at the thought of how little he has achieved.

What details from a story best help develop the theme?
andreev551 [17]

Answer:

Fourth Option

Explanation:

Lets use process of elimination to find the answer to this question. It's not the third option because giving descriptions of time and place only help establish the setting of the story and theme is the main idea of the story, it wouldn't be the first option because the readers knowledge develops as the story goes on so they wouldn't be developing details from the story that help create the theme. It also wouldn't be the second option because the authors motivation is before the story was even wrote. Therefore the answer is option four "character motivation and plot" because it helps the reader learn from the characters of the story.

Hope this helps.

Which of the following explains why language can be called arbitrary? Select all that apply.
docker41 [41]

Answer:

Language can be called arbitrary because, Words do not inherently resemble the objects that they represent and The word chair does not resemble the object it represents.

Explanation:

Languages are Arbitrary means that there is no relationship between the words that we use and the natural meaning of that particular word.

Words do not inherently resemble the objects that they represent. There are certain words which might be meaningless to some, but those are the exact words which are understood by many. Say for example, the word ‘chair’ doesn’t necessarily resemble the object it represents. It doesn’t tell us anything about what exactly the kind or type of object it is referring to.
