Figurative language is one of the most important elements of any literary texts. It's like the spice and seasoning of a dish, it gives taste to it.

"A Tribute to a Dog" is a speech made by Senator George Graham Vest as his closing argument for his client's dog shot and killed by his neighbor. Some examples of the figurative language used in the text are the following: <span>
♣ </span>He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master’s side. <span>(Personification)
♣ </span><span>The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him and the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog.</span><span>  (Personification)
♣ </span>A man’s dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness (Hyperbole)
♣ <span>He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. (Metaphor)
♣ H</span><span>e is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey to the heavens. (Simile)
These are just a few of the figurative languages used in the text, there' still more.  But these ones give more impact to the whole text. It makes it more convincing and meaningful. For sure because of this speech, his side won the case. </span>

Answer:

Personification is a type of figurative language found in the excerpt from The Time Machine:

Personification: “So that it was the Psychologist himself who sent forth the model Time Machine on its interminable voyage.”

The writer personifies the model Time Machine by attributing the human quality of being conscious while travelling on a voyage. This language hints that the narrator and other characters are beginning to believe that the disappearance of the device was not a trick. This also foreshadows a true voyage, perhaps for the Time Traveller.

Personification: “There was a breath of wind, and the lamp flame jumped.”

The writer also personifies the lamp flame by attributing the human quality of jumping at the sudden disappearance of the model Time Machine. This language emphasizes the sudden disappearance of the device and the shock that it likely was to the audience.

Contact [7]

Judge Brack is a friend of Tesman and his wife, a person who goes to their house a lot. He constantly puts himself into the business and affairs of the tesman, and can even say that with ulterior motives (interest in hedda, tesman's wife). Tesman, for his age, is naive and foolish, always trying to please Hedda, he competes for a professorship, and Brack passed on information about it, to lend him a hand and help him. All this with a hidden desire, the desire to approach Hedda. Lovborg in this triangle, is Tesman's biggest competitor in the academic world. At some point in this story, it is explicit that he and Haddad had a relationship. In that case, the three of them are connected to one person, Heddad. Tesman is aware of the competition with Lovborg, but does not know anything about Judge brack. The role of each of them is 3 men in love with the same woman. Tesman is the one close to Hedda, Judge brack is the one trying to be in the middle of their relationship, and lovborg hides an old relationship with her.

givi [52]

The goal of a satire is to criticize or ridicule somebody or something (an action, a situation, a behavior). For that reason, it usually features sharp and mordant ideas. In this excerpt from the <em>Adventures of Huckleberry Finn</em> by Mark Twain, Huck, the main character, is describing one of his encounters with the severe Miss Watson, his guardian's sister. In it, Miss Watson, who wants Huck to accept religion at all cost, is telling him to pray everyday, and, as a reward, he will get what he asks for. However, Huck, tired of not getting it (hooks for his fish-line), harmlessly asks Miss Watson, to her dismay, to do it for him, since, so he believes, she may be luckier and gets what he has asked for in his prayers. Miss Watson's livid reply and Huck's unaffected comment emphasize the mocking nature of the theme in this excerpt.

Allushta [10]

Answer:

A). An illustrated diagram of a samurai in full battle gear.

Explanation:

Text features are characterized as the elements of the narrative that are apart from the actual content of the narrative. This promotes better comprehension as it allows the readers to locate particular information quickly and easily. It also helps in knowing the main points of key ideas that the author is emphasizing.

In the given excerpt, the use of an <u>'illustrated diagram to show Samurai in full battle gear' would help the readers in understanding the Samurai warriors' history and the modes in which they prepared for their battles</u>. The diagram will not provide the information in a precise and highlighting manner that will be easier to understand but also allow them to know the key ideas effectively. Thus, <u>option A</u> is the correct answer.
