Conflicts over territory and government are a common consequence of countries unifying or splitting apart. If each state in the

US were to separate from the Union, what consequences might take place? Based on what you've learned in this lesson, write a short paragraph identifying two consequences that may occur.

If all the states in the US were to separate from the Union there would be several different consequences including:

1) A change in laws- All states that are part of the US have to follow the laws established in the US Constitution. However, if all the states left, they would rely on the state constitution as there only form of law.

2) Legal consequences- If an individual committed a crime in multiple states, it would make the legal process much more difficult if everyone was independent. Right now, a person that commits a crime in multiple states can be tried in a federal court. However, if all the states left, this would not be a possibility.
