Which excerpt from John Muir’s “Save the Redwoods” best appeals to readers’ logic? Could one of these Sequoia Kings come to town

in all its godlike majesty so as to be strikingly seen and allowed to plead its own cause, there would never again be any lack of defenders. Forty-seven years ago one of these Calaveras King Sequoias was laboriously cut down, that the stump might be had for a dancing-floor. Another, one of the finest in the grove, more than three hundred feet high, was skinned alive to a height of one hundred and sixteen feet from the ground and the bark sent to London to show how fine and big that Calaveras tree was—as sensible a scheme as skinning our great men would be to prove their greatness. These kings of the forest, the noblest of a noble race, rightly belong to the world, but as they are in California we cannot escape responsibility as their guardians. Fortunately the American people are equal to this trust . . . as soon as they see it and understand it. The Tuolumne and Merced groves near Yosemite, the Dinky Creek grove, those of the General Grant National Park and the Sequoia National Park, with several outstanding groves that are nameless on the Kings, Kaweah, and Tule river basins, and included in the Sierra forest reservation, have of late years been partially protected by the Federal Government; while the well-known Marisa Grove has long been guarded by the State.

Choose one of these two themes: “Strangers can act heroically” or “Reporters may risk their lives to do their jobs.” Write a par
GrogVix [38]

Answer:

Strangers can act heroically because the heroic personality not only in sport but in others spheres of daily life provides the subject with the exceptional nature denied them in his daily work logic. Reporters may risk their lives to do their jobs, because journalism is spoken of as a high-risk profession since, the journalist understands that the truth, although it may affect images of politicians and powerful people, must be counted as the only means of confronting phenomena rooted in society, such as corruption and tyrannies.

Explanation:

Ordinary people can act heroically in chaotic situations

The speaker makes it clear that his focus in on ordinary people since he says the distinction between the rich and the poor is non existent in such a situation. Then , he makes reference to cartmen's being helpful. The speaker sets a possibility of ordinary people's being heroic because , although he has heard that some people have charged others for helping sufferers  and he thinks this can be true, he has not seen people doing so. He has seen people helping others in exchange for whatever can be given to them or even for nothing. Therefore, these deeds are heroic.

Stating "we need to be concerned about tuition increases" rather than "students needs to be concerned about tuition increases" d
chubhunter [2.5K]

Answer:

Ethos

Explanation:

The speaker includes himself and members of the public for those primarily responsible for being concerned with the price of tuition charged to students. This represents the use of ethos, as a rhetorical resource that allows the speaker to present thoughts, positions and attitudes that place him on the same level as the audience, because they equate his character and identification with that of a collectivity.
