A population of mussels was observed in a particular ecosystem. It was found that crabs preferred these mussels as their favorit

e food. Few mussels developed a thicker shell to protect themselves from crabs found in the region. Which three statements does this adaptation suggest?
1) A change in the environment led to a new distribution of traits in a population.

2) The trait of shell thickening underwent natural selection.

3) The trait for shell thickening will not be selected by future mussel generations.

4) Half of the mussel population developed the trait while the other half did not.

5) Mussels with the shell thickening trait had a greater chance of survival.

Hi!

The statements that are correct are 1, 2, and 5.

Statement 1 is correct, is once the crabs arrived; the change in the environment (which wasn't there before as the mussels hadn't evolved to have thicker shells already, if the crabs were in the environment beforehand they would've already adapted), caused some mussels to grow thicker shells, a new trait, changing the distribution of traits.

Statement 2 is correct as well. In this case, the mussels underwent natural selection; where those with traits better suited to the environment survived and others didn't. That is how more of the mussel population grew shells; they aren't able to just change their traits if they want to, it's survival of the fittest.

Statement 5 is the final correct statement. The mussels adapted to their environment, and developed a thicker shell to help protect against the crabs, and you can tell it did help them survive because over time more mussels ended up with that trait; if it didn't help them survive then all those with that trait would've died off and there wouldn't be any remaining.

Hope this helped!

Elenna [48]
Since all of the three beetle species posses the protein, we can use it to determine their relations. We can study the sequence of the amino acids that make the protein and the 3D structure of the protein. The more differences there are in amino acid sequences and the structure of the protein, the species are more distantly related because they have diverged a long time ago and their genes that produce that protein have undergone many changes over time.

Determine the median value for foot width for males and for females. Describe in complete sentences the method you used to deter
Ipatiy [6.2K]

Answer:

This question is incomplete because of the absence of the data referred to in the question

Explanation:

This question is incomplete but the data referred to in the question is attached below

In order to determine the median value of any set of data, the data is first of all rearranged chronologically (ascending) and then the middle value is picked if the number of data is odd but if the number of data is even, the two middle values are added together and then divided by two to get the median.

From the data provided, the values (which are 10 in number) can be arranged as shown below (with the median values in bold)

Females: 5, 7, 7, 7.5, 7.5, 7.8, 7.8, 8, 8, 17

Males: 4.5, 7.5, 9, 9, 9.2, 9.3, 10, 10, 10.5, 13

Since the number of data is even, the two middle numbers (in bold) shall be added together and then divided to get the median as shown below

The median value for the females foot width is = 7.5 + 7.8/2 = 7.65 cm

The median value for the male foot width is = 9.2 + 9.3/2 = 9.25 cm

At present the rate of securing HIV disease through blood transfusions has been computed to associate with one case for every a million or two million transfusions. That viewpoint has been tackled with respect to testing however alternate issues still remain and they persuade the proceeded with look for simulated blood.
