Read the paragraph from The Hot Zone and the summary that follows it. Once the cells in a biological machine stop working, it ca

n never be started again. It goes into a cascade of decay, falling toward disorder and randomness. Except in the case of viruses. They can turn off and go dead. Then, if they come in contact with a living system, they switch on and multiply. The only thing that "lived" inside this monkey was the unknown agent, and it was dead, for the time being. It was not multiplying or doing anything, since the monkey's cells were dead. But if the agent touched living cells, Nancy's cells, it would come alive and begin to amplify itself. In theory, it could amplify itself around the world in the human species. Summary of central idea: It is petrifying that even if viruses are dead, they have the potential to “come alive.” Which changes should be made to improve this summary of the paragraph’s central idea? Check all that apply. Remove the phrase “It is petrifying” because it expresses a personal feeling. Include the detail that there was a dead virus living inside the monkey. Remove the detail that viruses can come alive even if they are dead. Add the phrase “and spread throughout the human species” to the end of the statement to more fully express the central idea. Add a personal opinion about what may happen if the virus does “come alive.”

You should remove the phrase that says it is petrifying and it is a personal feeling add that there was a dead virus living inside a monkey with dead cells because it is an important detail that helps guide you to the central idea that viruses can come alive in a living thing dont remove viruses can come alive if they are dead because that is the central idea dont add and can spread through the human species because its not an important detail

Answer:

Remove the phrase “It is petrifying” because it expresses a personal feeling.

Include the detail that there was a dead virus living inside the monkey.

Add the phrase “and spread throughout the human species” to the end of the statement to more fully express the central idea.

Explanation:

These are the suggestions that would best allow us to create a good, objective summary. In this text, we learn that the author is trying to summarize a text that describes a dead virus coming back to life. However, the author focuses on the feeling that this gives him, as opposed to the objective details provided by the text. The author shouls remove the description of his personal feelings. He should also include more specific details, such as the fact that the virus is inside the monkey, and that the spread to the human species is a grave concern.

Which characteristics of archetypes best describe
masha68 [24]

Answer:Answer:

1. She lives by her own moral code.

2. She sacrifices herself for her values.

3. She is forced to make a difficult decision.

Explanation:

Sophocles' tragedy "Antigone" tells the story of Antigone, Oedipus' daughter. Her two brothers killed themselves in battle over power after their father's death. At the time of their death, their uncle, Creon, was in power. After the battle, Creon ordered one of her brother's burial with honors, whilst for the other brother he ordered no burial at all - because he dared to contest his brother's reign.

Antigone could not understand why Creon would give such inhumane orders against her brother's burial. She loved her brother and she thought that he deserved a proper burial too. So she buried her brother herself, disobeying Creon's orders.

She believed that even though there were laws in place, some things were above human laws - some thing were universally right and true - the laws of the universe, the laws of the gods. This means that even though Creon was against her brother's burial, Antigone had her own sense of justice and her own system of values, telling right from wrong = She lives by her own moral code.

She sacrificed herself for her values, because Creon condemned her to starvation to death if she kept to her own personal believes and buried her brother. She maintained her position, buried her brother and then killed herself, refusing to be killed by Creon. Her lover (Creon's son) killed himself upon hearing about her death and his mother killed herself too, causing a lot of suffering to Creon.

Therefore, she put her values above her own life and preferred to die for what she believed in, for her own strong sense of justice. She also caused indirect suffering to Creon in revenge, because he lost his son and wife through her death.

Last but not least, she is forced to make a difficult decision, because it's never easy to choose between one's own life and values. Ultimately, Antigone is a strong heroine, remembered by her strength to defy the norms and fight for what is right, even at the cost of her own life.

‘A Slight Misunderstanding’ is an example of humorous narrative essay. Pick out a few humorous instances from the story. WILL MA
jonny [76]

Answer:

<em>A Slight Misunderstanding </em>is a light-hearted story by J B Boothroyd where he gives several instances of misunderstanding that occurs between the narrator, a farmer and his wife.

The story begins on a Saturday when the narrator just bought groceries and also there is a mention about a small black car he recently acquired but he mistakenly enters his car and finds a woman's handbag in the chair because she carelessly left it in his car.

He thinks he entered a wrong car because he attracts the attention of the farmer's dog and also the handbag he saw in the car. But eventually he sees the address of his house on the dog's collar.

He gets to the farmer's house and returns the bags and explains his confusion at first but realized he was in the right car when he checked the plate number. The farmer apologizes for his wife's carelessness and offers him a cup of coffee and they both have a good laugh about it.

Another similar case occurred after a social visit with his wife and when they go back to their car, they realized they have really gotten into the wrong car because of the different things in the car.
