The answer is no. The IRB will not review this study because it is not research as defined by the federal regulations.

EXPLANATION

IRB will only review researches that will affect people’s well-being and rights. The study is more of gathering information from people of an individual. Therefore, the IRB will not review the study. IRB stands for Institutional Review Board.

The IRB is an organization that mainly focuses on making sure that the research that is conducted, is applying ethics and morals. The IRB is also called by other names, such as ethical review board (ERB), ethics committee (IEC) or the research ethics board (REB).

IRB's main concern is the ethical side of the research. The research that is going to be conducted needs to apply ethics in their methods and procedures. The ethics’ purpose is to guide and protect the participants, either from harm and from violation of rights. IRB is making sure that every participant will be protected in the sense of rights and well-being.

Before a study is conducted, the researcher needs to get approval from the IRB first. The IRB needs to make sure that the research that is conducted is ethical, and that the research also protects the rights of the participants. IRB will review the study, especially if the participants in the study involves humans.

Participants in research must be protected at all costs. They need to be fully guided as they have the rights as a participant. The participants in a study must be protected from harm. Therefore, that is why IRB’s approval is important for research.
