Read the excerpt from chapter 2 of Night. And so an hour or two passed. Another scream jolted us. The woman had broken free of h

er bonds and was shouting louder than before: "Look at the fire! Look at the flames! Flames everywhere . . .” Once again, the young men bound and gagged her. When they actually struck her, people shouted their approval: "Keep her quiet! Make that madwoman shut up. She’s not the only one here . . .” She received several blows to the head, blows that could have been lethal. Her son was clinging desperately to her, not uttering a word. He was no longer crying. In this excerpt, the author shows how terrible conditions can cause people to be unsympathetic to the pain of others. How does the memoir genre enable the author to achieve this purpose? He is able to include facts to support his story. He is able to remain objective about what is happening. He is able to share his observations about one event in depth. He is able to provide an in-depth look about why the woman is shouting.

Answer: He is able to share his observations about one event in depth.

Explanation: A memoir is a group of memories that an author writes about all sorts of events that happened in his/her life. A memoir is based on facts but are told from the point of view of the writer. It includes all kinds of emotions and thoughts of the author, so it isn’t objective. In a memoir, the author can be really specific and include a lot of details of certain moment or event because, in this way, the reader can understand the story with all the emotions that it requires. This last characteristic (that correspond to the answer) is what makes possible to achieve the purpose mentioned (show how terrible conditions can cause people to be unsympathetic to the pain of others).
