The significance of the title, "The Passing", would be that it shows how humans can respond to each other in pressing times and also in how time can be either an asset or liability in regards to personal relationships. In the film we see that jealousy plays a key role and with it we can see how the passing of time can be interpreted. In this case, it would seem that it would be negative in aspect.

The title of the story "The Passing" is in reference to the death of Joe Willow. His death was the climax of the story, and the point where Sonny realizes that he and Joe still have a spiritual connection, even after death.

1. Paragraph 3 of "The Refusal” contains
Ad libitum [116K]

The setting affects the characters leaving them apathetic and resigned to the way they live, which makes them accept everything that the capital decides.

"The Refusal" is a story written by Franz Kafka, where we are introduced to a small town, where all citizens have their lives planned and established by the standards determined by the capital.

In the third paragraph of this story, we can see an apathetic setting, without many highlights and which does not express proactivity. This scenario affects citizens, leaving them as apathetic and resigned to the environment around them. This is because:

  • The city does not present anything new and exciting.
  • Everything the setting presents is determined by the capital and is presented as correct.
  • The scenery is boring and motionless.
  • This reinforces the idea that residents are affected in a tedious way, making them not bother with how they live, but rather satisfied with a limited life and without expressiveness.

In this case, we can conclude that the scenario affects the characters, making them submissive to the capital's will and not wishing to change that, as they are used to the monotony with which they live.

nikdorinn [45]
To compel the audience to think about the actions of anarchists and urge wealthy Indians to act instead of merely talking about poverty is the goal of the author's use of Hypophora. Hypophora is a figure of speech where the author raises a question, and then immediately provides an answer to that question.
