Read the excerpt from "Children of the Drug Wars." The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees recently interviewed 404 ch

ildren who had arrived in the United States from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico; 58 percent said their primary reason for leaving was violence. (A similar survey in 2006, of Central American children coming into Mexico, found that only 13 percent were fleeing violence.) They aren’t just going to the United States: Less conflicted countries in Central America had a 712 percent increase in asylum claims between 2008 and 2013. Read the excerpt from Enrique’s Journey. Enrique allows himself to doze only on trains farther north, where the gangsters no longer control the tops of the trains. There, he jams his body into the crevice on top of a hopper, next to the trapdoors used to fill the car. Or he waits until the train rounds a curve, giving him a good view of all of the cars. He spots a boxcar with its door open. When the train slows, he jumps off and races to the boxcar, jumping inside for a quick nap. What technique does the author use in each excerpt to support her purpose? The first excerpt uses narrative techniques, and the second excerpt uses quotations. The first excerpt uses facts and statistics, and the second excerpt is told as a story. The first excerpt relies on emotional words, and the second excerpt uses long explanations. The first excerpt relies on strong words, and the second excerpt is told from a first-person point of view.

The correct answer is B) The first excerpt uses facts and statistics and the second excerpt is told as a story.

We can clearly appreciate how despite both excerpts have the same theme they relay the information in different ways. The first excerpt is clearly an article about Kids from Honduras who were leaving their country due to violence and the author uses statistics to prove his/her point whereas the second one is an excerpt from 'Entrique's Journey' that's related to the refugee situation..

The correct answer is the first option. In the excerpt from the article "Vision, Voice and the Power of Creation: An Author Speaks Out," by T. A. Barron says that the spirit (anima) can be found in the voice of a character. It is explicitly states in lines: “The ancients [people from ancient history] used anima, in fact, to describe breath as well as soul. That is wholly appropriate, for in the breath—the voice—of a character lies its essential spirit.”

1. How would you describe the tone and purpose
of these excerpts from McNeil's oral history?
Setler [38]

Answer:

the tone used in McNeil's oral history is confessional and the purpose seems to be that by making simple, humble statements the narrator is able to present his own morality and his struggles in statements and not as pleadings.

Explanation:

these excerpts are from a narrator who comes from a marginalized community engaging in a protest against the government. this kind of oration is known as deceptively simple.

on the surface, the text seems uninviting and simplistic. but the layer of rebellion is subdued by the matter of factly tone to become more of a defiance to which the common person can easily identify and sympathize with. It also shows the strength of the narrator by not betraying their emotions to the reader.

Luba_88 [7]

The Answer is C.

The physicians and surgeons are professionals that studied many years and dedicated a lot of attention and efforts to learn important scientific knowledge. To practice their profession, they will need additional skills to be able to manage the many aspects of this work: talking with the patients, having an organized office, take important decisions etc.
