In a well-structured paragraph, evaluate the argument in the previous passage. State whether the argument is effective or not, a

nd determine the effectiveness of the reasoning, evidence, and diction.
Answer below !

Machiavelli claims that a leader must find a balance between a temperate and a cruel attitude to be successful. He makes a very effective argument. First, he uses deductive reasoning by stating a conclusion that he uses to prove his point. He says that if a leader is not cruel, his subjects will rebel and no one will obey the law. Second, his evidence is compelling. Machiavelli uses historical examples to support his ideas, which are clear and interesting to read. Finally, he uses sophisticated diction, creating a serious tone that provides a sense of authority. His reasoning, evidence, and diction all work together to support his claim, making his argument both horrifying and effective.

The paragraph is well structured and is effective. It carries reasoning, evidence and diction. The writer indicates the elements that grant success to a leader and offers proof by mentioning the benefits of cruelty to generate fear and avoid subversion. The naming historical figures to support his idea emphasizes the sense of authority. Additionally, evidence is the way to present facts and make an argument convincing. Finally, the choice of words is appropriate to deliver the message.

5. Analyze the claim the author makes about distracted teenage behaviors and evaluate whether the evidence used to support this
WARRIOR [948]

Answer:

After realizing a trial with green and red circles, where the participants had to find a correct target in order to obtain a reward, Zachary Rooper and his team announced that the attention of adolescents is related to rewarding information.

<em>Once the  teenage brain has linked a behavior to that reward, it continues to seek the reward again and again.   That’s why teens are likely to opt for the reward of social media when they should be studying. Or why  they respond to texts while driving. </em>

Explanation:

This evidence cannot be sufficient to support his statement that teenage brains are constantly seeking to reward. Teenage distractions and lack of attention could be related to their studying habits and their interests, not with the rewards they are expecting from social media websites. Although the rewarding system can motivate middle school and high school students, it should not be related to another habit in their life. It's true that many parents reward their children for achieving good results at school, but their concentration is also related to their personality, study habits, etc.

Therefore, Rooper's statement could be partially applied to the teenage population, but it shouldn't determine their behavior, as some of these behaviors are related to their age and the essential period of their development.

Which of these quotes best explains Hamid's advice to novelists?
Dima020 [189]

Answer:

A. "And the novel needs to keep changing if it is to remain novel."

Explanation:

In the article, Hamid seems to prefer TV viewing over reading lengthy novels, this is evident when he said <em>"I now watch a lot of TV.."</em> He goes further to say <em>"Films could be well written, but they were smaller than novels. TV was big, but its writing was clunky..this represents a crisis for the novel."</em>

Then comes Hamid's advice to novelists,<em> "And the novel needs to keep changing if it is to remain novel."</em>

Incomplete question. I referred to a similar situation.

Answer:

<u>D. a central character whose trustworthiness the reader is invited to doubt</u>

<u>Explanation:</u>

We can make such a conclusion because <em>the narrator</em> in the passage isn't speaking from the point of view who knows about the community's history and practices. But is open to doubts from his readers.
