Which statements best explains what happened to Chinese workers during the Great Leap Forward? Check all that apply.

a) Workers experienced pay raises as agricultural and industrial production rose.

b) Workers were organized into large communes in cities and countrysides.

c) Workers were forced to comply with rules through torture and abuse.

d) Workers flourished because they could choose what they did for a living.

e) Workers lived in dormitories and ate in dining rooms away from family.

f) Workers bought homes and property because they were financially stable.

The correct answers are b) and c).

• Workers were organized into large communes in cities and countrysides. Most communes contained around 5.000 families, people in a commune abandoned their traditional sense of material belongings, everything was then owned by the commune. Schools, health care and elderly houses were provided by the commune so that workers only have to worry about the objectives of their commune.

• Workers were forced to comply with rules through torture and abuse. In 1959 political decisions interfered with what communes were really capable of doing. When commune leaders reacted to the impossible tasks they were meant to do, party officials would threatened them to take them to jail. A crucial aspect was that the harvest of 1960 was terrible and it was believed than more than 9 million people died starved to death, between 1959 and 1962 it is thought that 20 million people died of starvation.

Rhetorical Devices are techniques that uses specific structure in sentences to persuade the audience or to obtain the desired effect.

The correct options are:

2. Without a solution, we are in trouble. Without a solution, the trouble will be great.

Rhetorical Device: Anaphora

In the option 2 the writer uses Anaphora, which consists in repeating the same words (In this case "Without a solution") at the beginning of successive sentences, this rhetorical device is often used in speeches to emphasize an idea.

3. We do not need a solution right away, since two days is plenty of time to solve this global issue.

Rhetorical Device: Verbal Irony

In option 3 the writer uses Verbal Irony, which consists in saying something opposite to what you truly mean. In verbal irony there must be an indication that the meaning was not meant, in this case the writer says "two days is plenty of time to solve this global issue" as an indication that a solution right away is actually needed, and that the writer is being ironic.

Radda [10]

Dear Friend:

I heard that you will soon be travelling to Salt Lake City and I thought I should warn you about a new feature that has been added to flights. That is, if you plan to fly on an Imperial Airlines airplane.

On April 6th, a movie projector was loaded on one of their planes for the first in-flight movie screening. Seeing as that was a success, you may encounter that your journey will include a motion picture while you fly.

I have attached a photograph of what that first screening looked like.

Hope you enjoy the flight!

If a researcher discovers she has notes that do not pertain to her thesis, she would most likely do which of these? Select all t
Ivanshal [37]
The correct answer should be Save those notes for use on another topic

You shouldn't change your entire thesis or your notes to fit it because that would be bad for the thesis and for the notes. Discarding them completely would be a waste of the notes so it's better to put them away for future use since you never know when you might need them.
