Read the excerpt from chapter 8 of The Travels of Marco Polo. Dhofar is a fine city of great size and splendour lying about 500

miles north-west of Shihir. Here again the people are Saracens and worship Mahomet, and are subject to a count who is likewise subject to the sultan of Aden. You must understand that this city is still within the province of Aden. The city stands on the sea and has a very good port, frequented by many merchant ships that import and export great quantities of merchandise. Many good Arab steeds, and horses from other lands as well, are brought here, and the merchants make a handsome profit on them. The city has many other cities and towns under its sway. Here again good incense grows in profusion—I will tell you how. It is produced by trees of no great size, like little fir trees. They are gashed with knives in various places, and out of these gashes oozes the incense. Some of it even oozes from the tree itself without any gashing, in consequence of the great heat that prevails. As for the Arab steeds that are brought here, the merchants afterwards export them to India, making a good profit on the deal. How does the author's language in this passage reveal his opinion of Dhofar? Select two options. The author uses the phrase “stands on the sea” to describe Dhofar. The author says that incense in Dhofar is produced by trees “of no great size.” The author describes Dhofar's busy port as “very good.” The author uses the words “fine” and “splendour" to describe Dhofar. The author uses the phrase "subject to a count" to describe the people of Dhofar.

The author describes Dhofar's busy port as “very good.” AND The author uses the words “fine” and “splendour" to describe Dhofar.

The author uses words with positive connotations that reveal he has positive feelings towards Dhofar. The phrase "very good" to describe the port which indicates his opinion of the place. He continues to use the word good throughout the passage to further this positive image of Dhofar. The authro also begins the passage by describing Dhofar with the words "fine" and "splendour". In this case "fine" does not mean okay. It is used similar to the word finery that would be used to describe jewels.

Write a narrative essay in about 150 words essay about loyalty.
mafiozo [28]

Answer:

What even is loyalty? The book definition of loyalty is "

the quality of being loyal." What is loyal? Loyal is "giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution." Loyalty is definitely one of the strongest traits someone needs to have. How can you leave your wallet around an unloyal person? How could you marry an unloyal person? Being loyal is definitely something that sticks around in jobs, friendships, family, siblings, and relationships. Promising your loyalty does nothing, it's all about actions and how you will prove your loyalty. In jobs, being loyal to your coworkers and not spreading lies, stealing, and just creating conflict is a definite necessity. Sleeping at night knowing your significant other isn't doing anything bad behind your back is also a form a loyalty. Its about the trust you put into a person or thing, and how they prove it to you. Have you ever broken your promise of loyalty?

In paragraph 7, what rebuttal does the author make to the claim in paragraph 6 that America is too culturally diverse to have a
Eva8 [605]

This question is about "A quilt of a country".

Answer:

C. She supports the idea that every generation of immigrants arrives with the same dreams and faces the same problems of assimilation.

Explanation:

In paragraph 7, the author shows that even if cultural diversity prevents the country from reaching a national character, it brings all immigrants together in the same story and still achieves American glomorization about overcoming difficulties.

This is because all immigrants, including those who lived in the country in remote times, came with the same dreams and goals and had the same difficulties to establish themselves and readapt to the new environment. This unites them all in a single concept, thus being able to create a national character.

This excerpt from the song “Revolutionary Tea” describes what historical event
IRISSAK [1]
By the name "Revolutionary Tea", (even though i have never heard of the song), i can imply a few things.

1) It happened during the Revolutionary war
2) It has to do with Tea

Next, we will look at the answer choices. The only reasonable one is The Boston Tea Party, as while it is before the Revolution, it is the only one that had to do with Tea (dumping of tea over into the Boston Harbor from the ships), and led to the Revolutionary war.

The Boston Tea Party is your best answer

Which sentence contains a misplaced modifier? The dog catcher said he would return our dog on Saturday. My uncle served steaks o
Alinara [238K]
Let us first define the meaning of misplaced modifier; it is a word, clause, or phrase that is improperly placed in a sentence which make it refer or modify an unintended word.
The first, second, and third sentences that are given above sound correct because their modifiers are placed just right.  Only the fourth sentence sounded awkwardly and confusing, because the clause "who lives in New York" is improperly separated from the subject "My aunt", which must be described in the first place, and not the "holidays".

The sentence will sound and can be understood better if it is written this way,

"My aunt, who lives in New York, is coming home for the holidays."
