A population of western skinks, a type of lizard, lives in a grassland habitat along the base of a mountain range. The construct

ion of a multi-lane highway will divide the habitat into two separate regions. How will the construction of the highway most likely affect the western skink population? A. The western skink population size would decrease by half, reducing the probability that the population will evolve and speciate. B. Western skinks would become better able to find unrelated mates, decreasing the population's susceptibility to diseases. C. Western skinks would become an invasive species in one of the two regions, so the total population size would increase. D. The western skink population would be separated into two groups, and genetic diversity would decline in each group.

The answer is; D

Due to the road cutting across the ecosystem, the western skinks would be unable to move freely across their original ecosystem, hence mating would be non-random.  Mating would only be random on either side of the road hence dividing the original population into two subpopulations. This would reduce diversity in either of the population and would make it hard for them to acclimatize to changes in the environment (since natural selection acts of genetic diversity), Over time, the to population, if they do not go extinct will diverge into different species.

Effectus [21]

Answer:

Madge is likely to have schizophrenia.

Explanation:

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that causes an individual to suffer delusions and hallucinations that cause totally abnormal and parranoic behaviors.

As has already been said, schizophrenia causes altered and abnormal behaviors, confused thoughts and difficulties in adapting to reality. It is a very disabling disease and can cause an individual to completely lose control of his mental faculties.

Madge's behavior shows that he has confused thoughts, paranoid behaviors and loss of reality, so we can say that he is likely to have schizophrenia.

Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) is an enzyme that aids in the decomposition of ethyl alcohol (CH3OH) into nontoxic substances. Methy
KonstantinChe [14]

Answer:

D.Competitive inhibition will decrease because the proportion of the active sites occupied by substrate will increase.

Explanation:

Methyl alcohol is a competitive inhibitor of ethyl alcohol. This means that both of them compete with each other for the same enzyme (ADH). Methyl alcohol leads to poisoning because it is converted to toxic formaldehyde in body. It can be treated by increasing the concentration of ethyl alcohol.

More ethyl alcohol (substrate) will reduce the competitive inhibition by methyl alcohol (inhibitor). This will happen because a substrate needs active sites on an enzyme to attach to it. If ethyl alcohol is increased in concentration, it will occupy more active sites and their availability to methyl alcohol will be reduced. Thus, the enzyme will not be able to act on methyl alcohol.

Classify the events as autogenic or allogenic succession.
nydimaria [60]

In ecology, allogenic succession is mediated by the abiotic components of the ecosystem, while the autogenic succession refers to the succession, which is mediated by the biotic components of an ecosystem.

A volcanic eruption wiping out an entire island is an example of allogenic succession.

A soybean crop helping in nitrogen fixation, leading to the development of other species is an illustration of autogenic succession.

A tsunami devastating all the living organism in a habitat is an example of allogenic succession.

Oak trees preventing the growth of smaller sun-seeking shrubs is an example of autogenic succession.

A fish has a head 9 inches long. the tail is equal to the size of the head plus one half the size of the body. the body is the s
Katena32 [7]

So let’s substitute that into the third equation and solve for B. B = H + T B = 9 + (9 + 1/2B) B = 18 + 1/2B Then subtract 1/2B from both sides: 1/2B = 18 Multiply both sides by two: B = 36 Now we know the value of B and the value of H. Substitute this back into the second equation and solve for T. T = H + 1/2B T = 9 + (1/2)36 T = 9 + 18 = 27 Step 4: Plug all values of H, T, and B into the final equation. Total length of fish = H + T + B Total length of fish = 9 +27 + 36 = 72.
