Answer:

As soon as Daisy finishes her story:

A) He (Nick) feels as if she has been manipulating him the whole time. Her voice has just been drawing him in.

Explanation:

Nick is the narrator in the novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. He and Daisy are cousins, but not very close to each other. In the first chapter, Nick is invited to Daisy and her husband Tom's mansion. During dinner, he finds out about Tom's affair. At a certain point, Daisy begins to tell him the story of the day her daughter was born. Tom, instead of being with her while she delivered the baby, was out cheating on her. Daisy said she wept when she learned she had given birth to a baby girl. She said she hoped her daughter would be a fool, because only a foolish girl can be happy in this world. She also talks of how sad she is. She calls herself sophisticated, but tries to convey skepticism and unhappiness at the same time. However, as soon as she is done talking, as soon as her marvelous voice ceases to hypnotize Nick, he realizes her feelings, her sadness, are not true. She is just playing a part, getting Nick to like her and to side with her, as her confidant and helper.

The instant her voice broke off, ceasing to compel my attention, my belief, I felt the basic insincerity of what she had said. It made me uneasy, as though the whole evening had been a trick of some sort to exact a contributory emotion from me. I waited, and sure enough, in a moment she looked at me with an absolute smirk on her lovely face, as if she had asserted her membership in a rather distinguished secret society to which she and Tom belonged.

In her poem “In a Queen’s Domain,” what does Piatt seem to be inferring about the world in these lines"
GarryVolchara [31]

Answer:

In her poem, "In a Queen's Domain", Piatt seems to be inferring that the world is not always perfect.

“And my subject, the dove, coos on, / Though my hand creep close to her nest.” tries to show that the world is made up of both the good and the bad people. The dove signifies the people that have a pure heart even though they are surrounded by people that seek to hurt them. The hand creeping close to the nest signifies the people that try to take advantage of the pure heart of the doves.

Piatt is depicted as imperfect and human because she conveys her realist views about nature and society. She does not seem interested in adhering to the romanticization of nature and women.

PART A: In paragraph 31, Vashti declares: “I dislike seeing the horrible brown earth, the sea, and the stars when it is dark. I
Karo-lina-s [1.5K]

Answer:

B. This remark tells us that much of humanity has lost its appreciation for earth and nature, to the point of resenting its mere appearance.

Explanation:

The question above is related to the short story entitled, "The Machine Stops." It focuses on two characters namely, Vashti and Kuno (her son). In the story, people were living underground and no longer on the surface of the earth. They were able to meet their needs through a global Machine. People were placed in isolated rooms where they communicated with other people through instant messages and video conferences. There were actually some people called the "homeless outcasts" who tried to live on the surface of the Earth.

Unlike her son, Kuno, who was interested to visit and know more about the surface of the Earth, Vashti was "not interested in natural inspiration." So, this explains her remark above. It shows how much of humanity has lost their appreciation for earth and nature. This is the extent to which the underground Machine did to people in the "poisoned darkness."

So, this explains the answer.

A clue to the meaning of "scrub suit" is: She took off all her clothes, put on a long-sleeved scrub suit, and stood before the door that led inward, blue light falling on her face. She passes security levels before putting the suit on.

Explanation:

A scrub suit refers to the sanitary clothes worn by doctors and another hospital stuff while performing and assisting a medical intervention or operation.
