In at least 150 words explain how Eudora Welty uses grotesque imagery to establish the most significant themes of the petrified
KATRIN_1 [288]

Answer:

"The petrified man" by Eudora Welty uses grotesque imagery to establish the most significant themes through the characters of the story, there are two main characters and the whole story goes around the conversation between them, who in a very dark, twisted and unpleasant way criticize and diminish the life of others, pretending to be worrying about them and their whereabouts, all the people that are being cynically analyzed in this piece of work are the clients of Leota, a beautician, her and her customer, Mrs. Fletcher are representations of the most despicable "qualities" of the human beings, the sense of grotesque in the story is created in the atmosphere by the way these two characters interact and how they personalities seem to be built only over darker shades of selfishness, irony, and sarcasm. These characters feel that they are morally superior somehow, which gives them the right to scrutinize the clients' lives

Explanation:

"The petrified man" has not been considered as a beautiful piece of written work for many experts because of it's obscure and despicable nature. For other, the use of this technique represents something worthy of analysis and it in fact became a representative story of the darkness inside of the human soul.

6. How does the fur contribute to the theme of the story? The story is ""Miss Brill""
liubo4ka [24]

Answer:please see below for interpretation.

Explanation: In the short story written by Katherine Mansfield,

The fur contributes to the theme of the story by representing the character MIss Brill who keeps her fur in a dark box and brings it out only to use it on outings.

The fur accumulates dust since it rarely used, and returns back to its location by Miss Brill after use upon returning.. This dust accumulated by the fur signifies that fur is not constantly in use and does not come out of the box, Similar to the character herself who seldomy goes out, like the fur she leaves home for a bit and spends time only to watch others, eavesdrop on their conversations and then returns to her lonely, small , dark room away from the world as before she left to dwell in her loneliness.

Consider how cultural diversity defines American society and literature. Is the American identity static or fluid over time? How
noname [10]

Answer:

The American society is composed of an ethnical mix, with members of many nations which blend into one unique American identity, while keeping their authenticity. This authenticity can be seen clearly in the cultural diversity. Just like any other identity, American is fluid over time. It changes and alters, in accordance with societal changes. Identities are not carved in stone. While we have every right to actively participate in the process of fashioning our identities, they still have a relative autonomy, and change over time. For example, if I am an Italian immigrant who lives in the U.S., I still have every right to claim my Italian cultural inheritance, but it doesn't make me less of an American. By living in America, I am adopting new cultural traits. My children will have their own perception of their cultural identity that doesn't have to be the same as mine.

Which excerpt from the passage encompasses the falling action of the story?
alina1380 [7]

Read the passage from "The Willow-Wren and the Bear."

When the fox felt the first sting, he started so that he lifted one leg, from pain, but he bore it, and still kept his tail high in the air; at the second sting, he was forced to put it down for a moment; at the third, he could hold out no longer, screamed, and put his tail between his legs. When the animals saw that, they thought all was lost, and began to flee, each into his hole, and the birds had won the battle.

Then the King and Queen flew home to their children and cried: "Children, rejoice, eat and drink to your heart's content, we have won the battle!” But the young wrens said: "We will not eat yet, the bear must come to the nest, and beg for pardon and say that we are honourable children, before we will do that.” Then the willow-wren flew to the bear's hole and cried: "Growler, you are to come to the nest to my children, and beg their pardon, or else every rib of your body shall be broken.” So the bear crept thither in the greatest fear, and begged their pardon. And now at last the young wrens were satisfied, and sat down together and ate and drank, and made merry till quite late into the night.

b. “When the animals saw that, they thought all was lost, and began to flee, each into his hole, and the birds had won the battle.”

c. “Then the King and Queen flew home to their children and cried: ‘Children, rejoice, eat and drink to your heart's content, we have won the battle!’”

d. “And now at last the young wrens were satisfied, and sat down together and ate and drank, and made merry till quite late into the night.”

Answer:

c. “Then the King and Queen flew home to their children and cried: ‘Children, rejoice, eat and drink to your heart's content, we have won the battle!’”

Explanation:

Falling action of a story occurs after the climax has been reached and there is a resolution of conflict. Here, the conflict has decreased or has been resolved and the story is reaching its conclusion.

Option C is the correct answer because it was after the fox has been defeated that the King and Queen bird flew home to tell them to rejoice.

The conflict has been passed and the story was already reaching its conclusion.
