The production of water signifies that it is a dehydration reaction. It is a reaction which involves putting together two molecules while losing water molecules. Polymers can be formed from this type of reaction. Some polymers are complex carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids. It is also considered as a condensation reaction because two molecules are being condensed into a larger molecule and losing a small molecule which is the water.

When the temperature reaches 0˚C (32˚F), the top layer of the lake freezes and turns into ice. In solid form, water molecules are less dense and thus ice floats on the top of the lake.

This solid barrier prevents any wind-induced mixing as well as protects the relatively warm water underneath. Furthermore, light is also blocked so that photosynthesis is inhibited during this period. As the lake water is separated from the atmosphere, no direct oxygen diffusion occurs.

All these factors together causes a more even distribution of nutrients and gases in a lake in winter.

experiment: Gather 2 tomato plants of the same height and age. Make two groups, a control group (a tomato plant without use of fertilizer) and an experimental group (a tomato plant with using Plant Food X).
For one week, give each plant the same amount of water, humidity, sunlight, and air temperature. after a week measure the height and number of tomatoes produced. gather the info in a table and compare to hypothesis after one week.
