1. Action potential reaches the axon terminal and depolarizes it.

2. Depolarization opens voltage-gated calcium channels, enabling influx of Ca into the neuron.

3. Calcium binds to specialized proteins on vesicles (containing pre-made acetylcholine) and triggers them to fuse with the neuron membrane at the synapse.

4. Exocytosis of acetylcholine into the synaptic cleft occurs.

5. Acetylcholine diffuses across the synapse and binds to nicotinic receptors on the end plate of the myocyte.

6. Activated nicotinic receptors, themselves ion channels, cause cation influx into the myocyte and generate an end plate potential. This eventually gives rise to the full depolarization within the myocyte that enables contraction.

Water is one of the most powerful forces on Earth. How does the example shown here illustrate the theory of uniformitarianism?
Solnce55 [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

The theory of uniformatrianism was proposed by James Hutton, a Scottish Geologist by profession.

This theory was a contrast proponent to the tenets of the theory of catastrophism in existence before then in the scientific circles

The theory states that "the present is the key to the past and geologic processes occurring today have happened in the times past".

  • The theory correlates geologic processes as continuous in nature rather can punctuated situations.
  • Erosion occurring today has been changing the land surface on earth as far back into the geologic times and periods.
  • From the image, the erosional activities are still continuing today.

Answer:

Methemoglobinemia

Explanation:

Methemoglobinemia (also known as the blue baby syndrome), is a condition with multiple etiologies which is associated with the lack of oxygen in the blood. This syndrome affects the function of red blood cells by altering the amount of hemoglobin protein, which carries and distributes oxygen to the body. Methemoglobinemia may be acquired by exposure to drugs and/or toxins. In this regard, it has been shown that high levels of nitrates in the water may induce this syndrome in infants.
