Explanation:

The Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance, basically answer the question: where are genes found in a cell?

It was described by Sutton and Boveri between 1902-1903 and states that individual genes are found at specific locations on particular chromosomes. It also postulates that the behavior of chromosomes during meiosis can explain why genes are inherited according to Mendel’s laws.

It states:

- Chromosomes, like Mendel's genes, come in matched (homologous) pairs in an organism: one member comes from the mother and one from the father.

- The members of a homologous pair separate in meiosis, so each sperm or egg receives just one member. This is referred as the law of segregation.

-The members of different chromosome pairs are sorted into gametes independently of one another in meiosis.

Svetradugi [14.3K]

Answer:

1) Wax belong to lipids.

2) Animals: Water and cold isolation and protection from pathogenic microorganisms.

Plants: It controls evaporation and maintains hydration.

Explanation:

1) Wax belong to the biomolecules of lipids.

2) In animals, such as birds, the uropygial gland secrets sebum or wax, spreading it throughout the animal's feathers to prevent water from penetrating as it serves as an isolating compound for animals that live in cold areas. It also provides protection from bacteria and fungi. In coloquial terms, it would be like a water-proof coat that protects them from water and extreme climate.

In plants, the secretion of wax through the cuticle has been developed as an adaptation to control evaporation and maintain hydration.

deff fn [24]
In order to calculate the distance between two alleles/genes that are found in the same chromosome, we need to know how often crossing-over happened (recombination frequency). We know from the text that white eyes were linked to miniature wings and that wild type eyes were linked to wild type wings, so any phenotype that's contrary to these parent combinations are a result of crossing-over. We know then that 230 flies + 240 flies were a result of such recombination. To calculate the recombination frequency we only need to divide these flies (total of recombinant flies) by the total of flies in the offspring and turn it into percentage.
\frac{230+240}{1000}=0.47
0.47*100%=47%
