Without using calculus or any other advanced math, the MS Solver plug-in can be used to find the input value for x that results

in a maximum value for a function f(x). The price x is in the Solver "variable cell" and the function 1000x – 300x^2 is the Solver "objective." Question: What is the price x that maximizes weekly revenues?

Answer:

The weekly revenue is maximum at x=1.67.

Explanation:

The given function is

f(x)=1000x -300x^2         .... (1)

where, f(x) is the total revenue at price x.

We need to find the price x at which the weekly revenue is maximum.

The leading coefficient of the given function is -300, which is a negative number. So, it is a downward parabola and vertex of a downward parabola is the the point of maxima.

If a parabola is defined as

g(x)=ax^2+bx+c           ... (2)

then the vertex of the function is

(-\frac{b}{2a},g(-\frac{b}{2a}))

From (1) and (2) it is clear that

a=-300,b=1000, c=0

The given function is maximum at

-\frac{b}{2a}=-\frac{1000}{2(-300)}

-\frac{b}{2a}=\frac{10}{6}

-\frac{b}{2a}=1.66667

-\frac{b}{2a}\approx 1.67

Therefore the weekly revenue is maximum at x=1.67.

3   $13.00

4   $9.20

5   $15.90

Explanation:

The unit value of inventory is to be valued  the lower of cost price and net realizable value.

Cost is the original purchase price while the net realizable value is the estimated selling price less of costs to complete and costs to sell as computed in the attached file.

37. Wal-Mart surveys its employees annually as part of its "Grass Roots" program. The survey is designed to assess employees’ pe
harina [27]

Answer: Yes it is.

Explanation:

The National Labour Relations Act of 1935 was passed to cater for both employees and employers. It gave both parties rights and advocates for Collective bargaining. Perhaps most key about this act is it's protection of the rights of employees to join unions and be able to engage in Union activities to improve their working condition.

Under this Act, it is illegal to terminate, suspend or take any other adverse action against an employee for their union actions.

It is under this last paragraph that this question falls.

If Wal-Mart had acted in anyway adverse towards employees based on the Unresolved People Index (UPI) alone, then their actions would have been illegal. They did not, so they are operating in legal territory.

Homeyer Corporation has provided the following data for its two most recent years of operation: Selling price per unit $ 71 Manu
Alex

Answer:

Net operating profit= 102,000

Explanation:

Giving the following information:

Selling price per unit $ 71

Manufacturing costs:

Direct materials $ 12

Direct labor $ 6

Variable manufacturing overhead $ 3

Fixed manufacturing overhead per year $ 264,000

Selling and administrative expenses:

Variable selling and administrative expense per unit sold $ 4

Fixed selling and administrative expense per year $ 74,000

Year 1

Units in beginning inventory 0

Units produced during the year 11,000

Units sold during the year 8,000

Units in ending inventory 3,000

Year 2

Units in beginning inventory 3,000

Units produced during the year 12,000

Units sold during the year 14,000

Units in ending inventory 1,000

Unitary cost= (12 + 6 + 3) + (264,000/11,000)= $45

Income statement:

Sales= (8,000*$71)= 568,000

COGS= (8,000*45)= 360,000 (-)

Gross profit= 208,000

Variable selling and administrative= (4*8000)= 32,000 (-)

Fixed selling and administrative expense= 74,000 (-)

guapka [62]

Answer:

<em>1) Monthly payments:</em>

<em>         </em>Payment=\$1,394.15<em />

<em />

<em>2) Balance in ten years:</em>

<em>        </em>Balance=\$166,676.94<em />

<u><em /></u>

Explanation:

<u><em></em></u>

<u><em>1. What are the monthly payments?</em></u>

The formula to compute the monthly payment of a loan is:

       Payment=Loan\times \dfrac{r(1+r)^n}{(1+r)^n-1}

Where:

  • Payment is the monthly payment
  • r is the monthly interes rate: 8% / 12 = 0.08/12
  • n is the number of months: 12 × 30 = 360
  • Loan = $190,000

Substitute and compute:

        Payment=\$ 190,000\times \dfrac{r(1+(0.08/12))^{360}}{(1+(0.08/12))^{360}-1}

        Payment=\$1,394.15

<u><em>2. What would the loan balance be in ten years?</em></u>

<u><em></em></u>

There is a formula to calculate the balance in any number of years:

     Balance=Loan(1+r)^n-Payment\times \bigg[\dfrac{(1+r)^n-1}{r}\bigg]

Substitute with n = 10 × 12 and compute:

Balance=\$190,000(1+(0.08/12))^{(10\times 12)}-\$1,394.15\times \bigg[\dfrac{(1+(0.08/12))^{(10\times 12)}-1}{(0.08/12)}\bigg]

Balance=\$166,676.94
