Extensive irrigation in arid regions causes salts to accumulate in the soil. (When water evaporates, salts that were dissolved i

n the water are left behind in the soil.) Based on what you learned about water balance in plant cells, explain why increased soil salinity (saltiness) might be harmful to crops.

Answer:

Increased salinity will result in total crop failure in a field. This is because plants need to take up water from the soil for growth and development. However the salinity levels of this soil will, rather, draw water from the plants by osmosis. This is because the soil water will be hypertonic to the plant's cells cytoplasm and even seeds. In osmosis, water moves from the hypotonic solution to the hypertonic solution through a semi-permeable membrane until osmotic equilibrium is achieved. Planted seeds with therefore hardly germinate and plants will wilt and die, as a result.

A muskrat population is growing exponentially. What might cause this population to enter logistic growth?

Answer: One cause that might cause the population of this semi aquatic rodents to enter a logistic growth would be the elimination of predators from their environment and the increase of food. The reason being that they are rodents with an adaptable lifestyle and an omnivorous diet. With no predators they would quickly adapt to their environment and increase their birth rate.

I hope it helps, Regards.

The tiles below depict translation events during roughly two cycles of elongation. each cycle adds a leucine (leu) amino acid to
sergij07 [2.7K]
I found the attached image on the internet and I believe it has the tiles referred to on the question.
As we can see on the image, the A-site, P-site, and E-site are represented. The A-site is occupied by the tRNA linked to the growing peptide chain. The P-site is the one occupied by the tRNA that works accepting the growing protein for peptide bond formation.
Firstly, the protein is formed, it is the first tile from the left.
Then, the first tile from the right is where the Leu is formed.
On the second tile from the right the Leu is then added to the protein.
The process is then repeated again as there are two cycles of elongation adding a Leu in each of them: third tile from the right, third tile from the left, second tile from the left.

What combinations of alleles could result from a crossover between BD and bd chromosomes?
AysviL [449]

Answer:

Bb, Db , Bd and Dd

Explanation:

When a cross between two parents (having certain trait) is carried out , they share their alleles with each other to produce offspring with new traits. These offspring have gentically different allele combination as compared to their parents. A  genetic cross can be represented by a punnet square (as given below)

The cross between two parents with genotype "BD" and "bd" will result into the following offspring -

B D

b Bb Db

d Bd Dd
