The combination of allies that could result from crossover between BD and bd chromosomes are Bb, Db, Bd and Db.

In a situation where there is a cross between two parents of the same traits, their allies are shared with each other to produce offspring with new traits. Genetically, the offspring have a different allele combination which is different to that of their parent.

During prophase I of meiosis, crossing-over occurs and Homologous chromosomes exchange genetic material. This is primarily a form of recombination which increases genetic variability. For instance, a cross over between BD and bd chromosomes will produce Bb, Db, Bd and Db

There are three sources of genetic variation and crossing over is one of them. Other sources of genetic variation include random fertilization and independent assortment.

Mendel’s law of independent assortment state that allele pairs separate during gametes formations. This implies that traits are transmitted to offspring to each other independently.

This principle was discovered when Mendel’s performed dihybrid crossing between plants of two traits such as pod color and seed color that are totally different from one another. After the plants self-pollinated, Mendel’s observed that the offspring has same ratio of 9:3:3:1 and because of this, Mendel came to a conclusion that the transmission of traits between the offspring were independently transmitted.

Answer:

Bb, Db , Bd and Dd

Explanation:

When a cross between two parents (having certain trait) is carried out , they share their alleles with each other to produce offspring with new traits. These offspring have gentically different allele combination as compared to their parents. A  genetic cross can be represented by a punnet square (as given below)

The cross between two parents with genotype "BD" and "bd" will result into the following offspring -

B D

b Bb Db

d Bd Dd

Radio telescopes are best used in _____. Select all that apply. detecting a star that emits little visible light detecting stars
Serhud [2]

The answer is; detecting stars that are behind nebulae that would normally block out other stars

Radio  waves have large frequencies unlike the other waves of the electromagnetic spectrum. Due to their large wavelength, they are much larger than the size of an atom hence cannot be blocked or deflected by atomic nuclei. This is unlike gamma rays (and other short wavelength electromagnetic radiation) that are smaller than atoms and easily blocked and deflected by atomic nuclei. Such radiations are extremely attenuated when they pass the through nebula cloud. Radio waves hence overcome this challenge.

In one to three sentences, describe what happens during the reduction stage of the Calvin cycle
Marizza181 [45]

Answer:

  1. ATP and NADPH facilitate the reduction of 6 molecules of 3-PGA  (formed in carbon fixation)to six molecules of the simple sugar glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P).
  2. In the reduction process ADP and NADPH+ are made, when ATP releases energy and loses its terminal phosphate,  and NADPH loses energy and a hydrogen atom.
  3. ADP and NADPH+ return to the light-dependent reactions for re-use.

Explanation:

Sugar biosynthesis in plants, called photosynthesis produces glucose from the reactants;  it uses energy from sunlight, along with carbon dioxide and water. In chloroplasts, this occurs in the light-dependent and dark reactions. In the light- dependent reaction, solar energy stimulates photosystems, formed from pigments like chlorophylls.

In the light-independent reaction, products of the light reaction are used to make sugars. Here, in the Calvin cycle, the enzyme, RuBisCO, catalyzes the fixation of CO2 with Ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP).  Organic molecules are reduced and RuBP is regenerated.

Which is a base? A. Substance C is formed from the reaction of an acid and a base. B. Substance A gives off H+ ions that combine
Maru [420]

Answer:

C. Substance B gives off OH– ions that combine with H+ ions when dissolved in water.

Explanation:

A base is a substance that interacts with water to yield excess hydroxide ions in an aqueous solution.

Bases are certain metallic oxides, metallic hydroxides and aqueous ammonia.

Bases reacts with acids to produce salts which is substance C as described in first option.

Substance A is an acid and it gives off Hydrogen ion.
