Drosophila melanogaster has four pairs of chromosomes. Sperm from this species are formed by a meiotic process in which homologo

us chromosomes pair and segregate but do not undergo crossing over. How many genetically different kinds of sperm could be produced by a Drosophila melanogaster male?

Answer and Explanation:

Drosophila melanogaster has 4 sets of homologous chromosomes:

  • One sets of exceptionally little autosomes
  • One set of sex chromosomes. (Male Drosophila have one X and one Y chromosome)
  • As male Drosophila have one X and one Y chromosome, two hereditarily various sperms (gametes) would shape with X or Y chromosome.
  • Two sets of huge autosomes.

The Drosophila melanogaster are known as heterogametic as they give rise two kinds of gametes.

A section of highway is posted with a 55 mph speed limit. In fact, speeds of cars traveling on this section are normally distrib
In-s [12.5K]

Answer:

z=1.28

And if we solve for a we got

a=58 +1.28*5=64.4

So the value of height that separates the bottom 90% of data from the top 10% is 64.4.

Explanation:

Previous concepts

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

The Z-score is "a numerical measurement used in statistics of a value's relationship to the mean (average) of a group of values, measured in terms of standard deviations from the mean".

Solution to the problem

Let X the random variable that represent the velocity of a population, and for this case we know the distribution for X is given by:

X \sim N(58,5)

Where \mu=58 and \sigma=5

For this part we want to find a value a, such that we satisfy this condition:

P(X>a)=0.10   (a)

P(X   (b)

Both conditions are equivalent on this case. We can use the z score again in order to find the value a.

As we can see on the figure attached the z value that satisfy the condition with 0.90 of the area on the left and 0.1 of the area on the right it's z=1.28. On this case P(Z<1.28)=0.9 and P(z>1.28)=0.1

If we use condition (b) from previous we have this:

P(X

P(z

But we know which value of z satisfy the previous equation so then we can do this:

z=1.28

And if we solve for a we got

a=58 +1.28*5=64.4

So the value of height that separates the bottom 90% of data from the top 10% is 64.4.

Inhumane farming methods are detrimental to both crops and animals. Critically discuss 4 ways how this affect animals
leonid [27]

Answer and Explanation:

Inhumane agricultural methods are the result of large corporations that do not manage and administer correctly and considering the impact of their agricultural production, creating many problems for crops and animals. Among these methods, we can mention:

Extreme plowing: Plowing in an extreme manner and without taking into account environmental conditions can be very harmful. This is because it causes erosion and soil drift, making the area increasingly unproductive and unable to maintain agricultural crops or even maintain the pastures used for animal feed.

Waste of water for irrigation: Large agricultural companies spend a lot of water on irrigation. It is true that agricultural production needs water in large quantities, however, there is a lot of waste of this water, through pipes that have not received maintenance, which prevents animals and even humans from having access to drinking water.

Abusive confinement: The animal products industry can be very abusive. These abuses can happen in several ways, but one of the most evident is the abusive confinement, where the animals are huddled inside very small spaces, leaving them stressed, afraid and promoting unease among them.

Overexploitation: The dairy and egg industry is very abusive towards cows and chickens, especially the dairy industry, where cows are forced to produce exorbitant amounts of milk almost all year round, by injecting hormones that cause changes in the body and does not allow these animals to have peace.
