Which of the following choices best describes the syntax in this quotation?
vampirchik [111]

In this case, the main sentence has an embedded clause at the end:

"<em>I think </em><em>that ’twixt the negroes of the South and the women at the North, all talking about rights, the white men will be in a fix pretty soon</em><em>.</em>" (embedded clause in bold.)

This embedded sentence is <u>complex</u> as it has one independent clause ("<em>...the white men will be in a fix pretty soon.</em>") and a dependent clause ("<em>...that 'twixt the negroes of the South and the women at the North...</em>")

The main sentence presents a simple syntactic pattern: S.V.O. (Subject-Verb-Object), as it contains a mono-transitive verb ("<em>think</em>") which requires a direct object following it ("<em>that...</em>"). The subject of the sentence is the personal pronoun "<em>I</em>". This S.V.O. pattern is present in sentences much simpler, such as "<em>I think this</em>" or "<em>I like that.</em>"

Gatsby spends five years dreaming about Daisy and being reunited with her. Describe Daisy the “colossal” illusion. How does his
Firlakuza [10]
<span>Daisy was in a relationship with Gatsby at an early age. He has been gone for 10 years and she had thought he died in WW1. Gatsby was Daisy's first love and she had put him and their relationship on a pedestal. At first their is disbelief that Gatsby is in fact not dead but alive. She is madly in love with him and does not understand how he is still alive and is enraptured by the enigma and mysterious circumstances his appearance has brought into her life. After the death of Myrtle Wilson, Daisy is able to return back to her normal life. The ease in which she is able to actually do this is testament to the societal views towards women at the time. Women were viewed as helpless and Daisy was probably thought incapable of a vicious murder so the police did not pursue an indictment. Her husband was also a powerful businessman and must have certainly had clout in the political sphere.</span>

Explanation:

Complete Question:

Which two sentences from the passage best convey a tone of wonder?

Flashbulbs went off, social media began buzzing, and the two toy store owners smiled from ear-to-ear. However, Margot's daughter began to skimp on costs. It was a jovial tradition passed down to her daughter. With the help of her grandson, Andre, they rebuilt the toy store into a fantastical delight. And with one mighty tug, the new displays beamed out to the overcrowded square.

The tone is used in writing to tell readers' the attitude employed by the writer, through the writing styles and use(choice) of words to convey the writer's mindset or emotion. Therefore, the tone of wonder is simply the tone that makes the story captivating or surprising about a certain situation that influences readers' reactions.

These two sentences :

<em>Flashbulbs went off, social media began buzzing, and the two toy store owners smiled from ear-to-ear.</em>

<em>With the help of her grandson, Andre, they rebuilt the toy store into a fantastical delight; </em>convey a tone of wonder in the passage. Here the author describes the action of the store owner in a vivid way leading the readers to wonder why the store owners are widely smiling and lastly the author paints a sense of wonder that follows the building of the toy store.
