Answer: After reading the text presented above the three examples of diction that I found add the overall tone to this text are the following: Importune, Pine, and Scorn. Each of this give the reader understand the emotional power to the piece. For example Importune tell us that she is bothered by the man and wanted to be left alone. Pine, which means to yearn, gives us the feeling that she misses the time when men longed for her. And finally Scorn which means that she wanted to be left alone in a negative manner.

Answer: The three examples of imagery that I could found in the text and that add the overall tone are the following: “But I the prouder grew” -It shows the readers the pride she felt and how much regret she felt. , “I will so pluck your plumes” - It represents the pain of the people she hurt., and “When I was fair and young” - Repent and regret of how she acted when she was young and beautiful.

Answer: I believe that the important details the author chose to include where the way how she responded to the attention from men she had at the time. This not only shows us the readers the mistakes she made but also the reason for her sincere repent.

Answer: I believe the the important details the author chose to omit are the fact of whether or not she chose a man later on or if she later on fell victim to her own decision of turning them away.

Each of these words are descriptive (which makes them adjectives) and convey powerful emotion to the reader. The word importune, which means to beg or plead is a very strong and emotional word that coveys the strain one went through to plead for something. Young and fair create calm and positive vibes, they are positive diction words and create a sense and a feeling of peace and tranquil in the reader’s mind. These positive words are in the beginning of the poem and contrast the overall tone from words like importune or scorn which convey a tone of regret, dismay, and remorse.

Both the words fair and young go together and fabricate an image of beauty and grace in the reader’s mind giving them a chance to imagine Queen Elizabeth as a fair, beautiful, and young maiden. The other words the author use like scorn or importune which send the message straight across, these words paint an image of a hard, stone-cold attitude and face contrasting the description of a fair and young maiden. The detailed descriptions of the “sighing hearts” and “weeping eyes” perfectly project an image in any reader’s mind of the heartbroken and rejected suitors the maiden turned down. Where the author could have decided to select milder, more moderate words, she decided to use strong, emotional words to create strong feelings for the reader.

The author, the Queen of England, wrote how she was sought by many men to be their bride because of her grace and beauty and she described her physical features and attributes by selecting and omitting words such as fair and young to weave an image of beauty in anyone’s mind, making us realize why she was pursued so much to be someone’s prize. How many men she severely dejected and crushed by bringing them despair and grief and by refusing to join them. All of these images are vital details and create a powerful image of the queen’s tale

The author does not include a lot of details; she does not state how many men pursued her, what they looked like, or who they were. She also does not tell how she changed after she lost her beauty and how she even lost her beauty, by doing this the author gives us a little room to imagine what the men looked like and who they were and how this terrible fate happened to her. We are allowed to imagine possibilities of what happened in this story.

The sentences aren’t long, but they aren’t necessarily short either, they are more in between or around medium. Despite their size they still emit strong emotion and build up tension through the story by using short word phrases and punctuation usage. All of these added together build up suspense and emotion for the reader, it also creates a sense of consistent mood and continuality.
