Answer:

Crossing over

Explanation:

Crossing over is the process during which two chromatids of two homologous chromosomes exchange part of their genetic segments. It occurs during the pachytene stage of prophase I of meiosis I.

Linked genes are mostly inherited together and do not exhibit independent assortment. However, when linked genes are present far apart from each other on the same chromosome, crossing over can occur between them to produce recombinant chromatids. Therefore, crossing over can break the linkage and produce recombinant progeny as it occurs during the independent assortment of unlinked genes.

Step 8: Simulate an environment with equal amounts of insects and seeds, but no fruit. Which flock will be able to eat the most?
defon

The omnivorous flock will eat the most as it eats both insects and seeds. With the removal of fruit it will not be affected much.

The herbivorous flock will eat the least as it has the option to eat seeds only after the removal of fruit.

Explanation:

Let us take the example of Finches. Finches have many different species with different variations adaptable to conditions favorable as per availability of the type of food.

Lets say -

Species X and Y is provided with insects, seeds and fruit.

Species X - Omnivorous

Species Y - Herbivorous

The species X will be able to eat the most as it is an Omnivore.

The omnivorous flock will eat the most as it eats both insects and seeds. With the removal of fruit it will not be affected much.

Species Y will be able to eat the least as it is an herbivore.

The herbivorous flock will eat the least as it has the option to eat seeds only after the removal of fruit.

Local and global winds are set in motion by air moving in convection cells. Describe the motion of air in a convection cell. Be
IrinaVladis [17]

Answer:

Due to the earth spherical shape, different latitudes of the planet receive varying solar energy levels from the sun. This is due to the differences in how the sun rays hit the earth surfaces and differences in the length of atmosphere the rays have to travel before they reach the earth's surface.

The equatorial regions get the most energy levels from the sun hence their atmosphere gets heated faster and the hottest. The air mass in this latitude, therefore, gets less fast dense  and begins to rise. The cooler and denser air mass from the poles rushes in, through the  lower atmosphere, to replace the void of the rising air.

When this air mass also gets heated, it too begins to rise. Remember the initial air mass cooled as it rose into the upper atmosphere. This now makes it denser than the air mas below it. As the hotter air mass begins to rise from below it pushes the cooler air mass above laterally. After the lateral movement, the air mass begins to sink slowly as it moves towards the poles because the incoming air mass gets denser than the local air mass.

The lateral movement of the convection current moving to the north is deflected to the north-west due to the Coriolis effect of the earth rotation while the lateral movement of the convection current moving south is deflected to the south-west. These pockets of convection currents are called Hadley cells.

Orlov [11]

Answer:

Hot, humid temperatures than today.

Explanation:

  • The Carboniferous period is was a geologic period that spans about 60 mn years ago and is named for the coal-bearing period. In the beginning, the climate was warm and hot had temperature about 20 degrees, but in the middle cooling occurred and the temperature was about 12 degrees.
  • The cooling and drying of the climate lead to the Carboniferous rainforest. The planet was much hotter and more humid than we see it today and had more carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere than exists today.
