Mending wall is a poetry about a wall between the territory of the speaker and his neighbor. The speaker’s attitude towards the wall is that it is unnecessary to have a wall that divides them. It is having a speculation wherein, being close-minded with each other is not an obstacle but an opportunity.

In the"Mending Wall" by Robert Frost, the speaker mains skeptical towards the action taken by the neighbors, who decide to repair a wall that separates them. In the end, he understands the meaning behind this periodic maintenance of the wall when one of the neighbors tells him: "Good fences make good neighbors". The speaker learns that it is this periodical practice that keeps the neighbors in touch and in good terms.

This poem defers from Frost's attitude towards writing, as it is not structured in stanzas. It is rather a simple narrative from a person in 45 lines.

Damm [24]
This scene occurs when Balfour is on the small islet. Balfour gives into despair when he tires to cross the river but cannot -- it is too deep. He finds that his "yard" (a piece of wood he was saving to float on) has been carried away. Believing he has no way to escape the islet, he gives into despair and weeps.
