Answer:

Area = 145.7 Square yards

Step-by-step explanation:

Since there is no picture attached to depict the house and its dimension, I am taking values of a similar problem.

<em><u>Dimensions of Shed</u></em>

2 walls with dimensions of 15 ½ ft. by 12 ft.

2 walls with dimensions of 25 ¼ ft. by 12 ft.

Ceiling with dimensions of 15 ½ ft. by 25 ¼ ft.

2 windows that are each 2 ft. by 4½ ft. as well as an 8-ft. by 5-ft. door

<u>Solution</u>

We need to find the total wall area and ceiling area which when combined will give us the total area shed's outer surface that needs to be painted.

For total area of the wall, we need to first find the sum of area for each wall and subtract area of windows and door

Wall Area = Area of 1st two walls+Area of other two walls-Area of 2 windows-Area of door=[15.5(12)(2)] + (25.25) (12) (2) - (2)(2) (4.5) -(8)(5)

Wall Area = 371 + 606 - 17 - 40

Wall Area = 920 square ft = 102.2 square yards

Ceiling Area is just the area of the ceiling

Ceiling Area = (15.5) (25.25 )

Ceiling Area = 391.375 square ft= 43.486 square yard

<u>Total Area = Wall Area+Ceiling Area </u>=102.2+43.486=145.7 Square yards

Which is the area paul needs to cover with paint.

<em>Note: Converted Square foot to square yard as the problem requires that.</em>

In a football tournament, the Bees scored 9 less than three times as many points as the Hornets. The Wasps scored 28 more points
Alinara [238K]

Answer:

  • <u>The Bees scored 90 points.</u>

Explanation:

First, let's prove that the equation is correct.

To create the equation, you translate the verbal statements into algebraic expressions.

Since, it is said that x respresents the number of points scored by the Hornets, that is your variable and all the verbal statements will be translated using x:

a) NUmber of points scored by the Hornets: x

b) The Bees scored 9 less than three times as many points as the Hornets ⇒v3x - 9

c) The Wasps scored 28 more points than the Hornets ⇒ x + 8

d) Together the three teams scored 184 points ⇒

  • x + (3x - 9) + (x + 28) = 184

Which indeed is the given equation: (3x – 9) + x + (x + 28) = 184

Now, complete the steps to show it, in the same order given:

<u>1. Combine like terms. </u>

  • Remove the parenthesis: x + 3x - 9 + x + 28 = 184

  • Combine the terms on x on the left: x + 3x + x = 5x

  • Combine the constants on the left: - 9 + 28 = 19

  • Write the result: 5x + 19 = 184

<u>2. Use the subtraction property of equality. </u>

  • Subtract 19 from both sides: 5x + 19 - 19 = 184 - 19

  • Due the operations: 5x = 165

<u>3. Use the division property of equality. 4. </u>

  • Divide both sides by 5: (5x / 5) = 165 / 5

  • Due the operations: x = 33

<u>4. Use the variable to answer the question. How many points did the Bees score?</u>

  • The expression for the points scored by the Bees is 3x - 9, so substitute x in that expression: 3 (33) - 9 = 99 - 9 = 90.

  • Answer: the Bees scored 90 points.

A theater group made appearances in two cities. The hotel charge before tax in the second city was $1000 lower than in the first
Bess [88]

Answer:

  • $5000 in the first city
  • $4000 in the second city

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent the pre-tax hotel charge in the first city in dollars. Then the hotel charge in the second city is x-1000 dollars, and the total tax is ...

... 7.5%·x +5%·(x -1000) = 575

... 12.5%·x = 625 . . . . simplify, add 50

... x = 5000 . . . . . . . . divide by 12.5% (=0.125)

The first-city charge was $5000; the second-city charge was $4000.

K is the midpoint of segment HL . H has coordinates (1, -7 ) , and K has coordinates(-9, 3 ). Find the coordinates of other end
Andrei [34K]

Answer:

Coordinates of other end point L = ( -19, 13 )

Explanation:

The mid point of the coordinates (a,b) and (c,d) is given by (\frac{a+c}{2},\frac{b+d}{2})

 Here we have (a,b) = (1,-7) and (\frac{a+c}{2},\frac{b+d}{2}) = (-9,3) , we need to find (c,d).

 \frac{a+c}{2} =-9\\ \\ 1+c=-18\\ \\ c=-19\\\\ \frac{b+d}{2} =3\\ \\ -7+d=6\\ \\ d=13

So coordinates of other end point L = ( -19, 13 )
