Swift is criticizing the English government and the wealthy for creating poverty in Ireland. He uses verbal irony when he proposes that eating children is the way to resolve the growing problem of impoverished children. By developing this idea and implying that the English will not mind if the Irish use children for food, Swift suggests that the English government is callous and cruel.

The question revolves around Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal where Swift criticizes the English government in the lights of the poor lives of Irish people. He ironically proposes Irish can solve their food problems by selling their children. Swift lashed out to the economic policy of the government. However, he himself does not put any economical solution. He only just uses satire in order to convey the truth.

Why do you think the author chose to have Proctor’s story about his relationship with Abigail told to his wife offstage?
Setler [38]

This was done by the author so that the relation ship does not become a topic to be discussed by every one and remains private.

Explanation:

In at least two hundred words, explain how the musician from "Arrangement in Black and White" relates to the African
chubhunter [2.5K]

In "The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain," Hughes talks about the importance of identity and race in art. He argues that a true artist cannot be one in a way that is separate from his own identity. This is particularly true in the United States, where your racial background determines every aspect of who you are, what opportunities you have access to, and how people treat you.

This is illustrated in "Arrangement in Black and White." In this story, we see an African American artist who is admired by a white woman. The woman considers herself to be liberal and accepting of others. However, she is unable to look past her own racism and bias, despite her claim of being modern and understanding. This supports Hughes idea of the artist being unable to be an artist independently from his racial identity.

What is central of idea of poem our generation
mixer [17]

Answer:

The central idea of the poem Our Generation is to show that today's generation of adolescents and children is not lost, and that they can get ahead if the things they are doing wrong are reversed.

Explanation:

The poem Our Generation was written by a 14-year-old girl named Jordan Nichols.

The peculiarity of this poem is that when we begin to read it, it narrates everything bad that the current generation of children has. It describes a generation that doesn't care about anything and doesn't want to fight to change it. Basically it describes everything that older people think of this generation. But when we get to the end of the poem there are some lines that say: "Read from bottom to top now".

Read it from bottom to top the poem changes completely. Show how this girl really sees her generation. A fighting generation, which can change all the bad they have if they set their mind to it.

Lines 110–116: Suggest how this lengthy sentence might be rewritten in a more modern way.
Aloiza [94]

Incomplete question. I inferred you are referring to "Bradford's History of 'Plimoth Plantation'", by William Bradford.

Explanation:

Lines 110-116 reads;

"In ye name of God, Amen. We whose names are underwriten, the loyall subjects of our dread soveraigne Lord, King James, by ye grace of God, of Great Britaine, Franc, & Ireland king, defender of ye faith, &c., haveing undertaken, for ye glorie of God, and advancemente of ye Christian faith, and honour of our king & countrie, a voyage to plant ye first colonie in ye Northerne parts of Virginia, doe by these presents solemnly & mutualy in ye presence of God, and one of another, covenant & combine our selves togeather into a civill body politick, for our better ordering & preservation & furtherance of ye ends aforesaid; and by vertue hearof to enacte, constitute, and frame such just & equall lawes, ordinances, acts, constitutions, & offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meete & convenient for ye generall good of ye Colonie, unto which we promise all due submission and obedience. In witnes wherof we have hereunder subscribed our names at Cap-Codd ye 11. of November, in ye year of ye raigne of our soveraigne lord, King James, of England, France, & Ireland ye eighteenth, and of Scotland ye fiftie fourth. Ano: Dom. 1620..."

This lengthy sentence might be rewritten in a more modern way by replacing old English expressions like 'ye' with 'the' and adjusting the spellings of some words.

For example, The first five lines of lines 110 could be written;

"In the name of God, Amen. We whose names are underwritten, the loyal subjects of our dread sovereign Lord, King James, by the grace of God, of Great Britain, Franc, & Ireland king, defender of the faith, &c., having undertaken, for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith and honor of our king & country, a voyage to plant the first colonies in the Northern parts of Virginia..."

In these speeches, consider that King says “1963 is not an end, but a beginning,” while Malcolm X states in his 1964 speech that
makkiz [27]

sample answer from palto

King’s speech is from the point of view of a fellow African American who seeks civil rights and will not rest until the African American community achieves equal rights in the United States, but only through nonviolent methods. He states that African Americans will keep striving for freedom, but at the same time, he encourages the African American community to not indulge in any wrong or violent deeds. Malcolm X also attempts to encourage the African American community to revolt against destructive inequality, but he advocates using force and violence when necessary. His words “the ballot or the bullet” are meant to serve as an ultimatum to the government. If African Americans are not allowed to vote, then they may turn to violence to achieve their goals.
