An insulated open feedwater heater (mixing box) is used in a steam power plant to raise the temperature of the water going into

the boiler which increases the thermal efficiency. The water exits the feedwater heater as a saturated liquid at P6 with a mass flow rate of m6. The two inlets to the feedwater heater are both at a pressure of P6. The first inlet has a temperature of T3 and second at a temperature of T5. Determine the following given the properties listed below.
--Given Values--

P6 (Bar) = 5
m6 (kg/s) = 72
T3 (C) = 281
T5 (C) = 65

1. Determine the specific enthalpy (kJ/kg) at the feedwater heater exit.
Your Answer =
2. Determine h3, the specific enthalpy (kJ/kg) at the first feedwater heater inlet.
Your Answer =
3. Determine h5, the specific enthalpy (kJ/kg) at the second feedwater heater inlet.

Answer:

1. 640.09 KJ/kg

2. 3025.232 KJ/kg

3. 272.09 KJ /kg

4. m3 = 9.624 kg /s

5. m5 = 62.37 kg/s

Explanation:

part a

P6 = 5 bar @saturated liquid

Use table A-5

[email protected] 5bar = h_f,5bar = 640.09 KJ/kg

part b

T3 = 281 C  ... super-heated steam

P6 = 500 KPa    ... Tsat,@500 KPa = 151.83 C

Use table A-6

P = 0.5 MPa ......

T = 250 C , h = 2961 KJ/kg

T = 300 C , h = 3064.6 KJ/kg

Interpolate:

m = (3064.6  - 2961) / (300 - 250) = 2.072

c = 3064.6 - 2.072*300 = 2443

h3 = 2.072*281 + 2443 = 3025.232 KJ/kg

part c

T5 = 65 C   .... compressed liquid

P6 = 500 KPa    ... Tsat,@500 KPa = 151.83 C

Use Table A-4

[email protected] C, f = 272.09 KJ /kg

part d and e

Continuity Equation

m3 + m5 = m_exit = 72 kg /s   .... Eq 1

Energy balance:

m3*h3 + m5*h5 = m_exit * h_exit   .... Eq 2

3025.232*m3 + 272.09*m5 = 72*640.09 = 46086.48   .... Eq 2

Solve above two equation simultaneously for

m3 = 9.624 kg /s

m5 = 62.376

A 10-m long steel linkage is to be designed so that it can transmit 2 kN of force without stretching more than 5 mm nor having a
Fed [463]

Answer:

<em>minimum required diameter of the steel linkage is 3.57 mm</em>

<em></em>

Explanation:

original length of linkage l = 10 m

force to be transmitted  f = 2 kN = 2000 N

extension e = 5 mm= 0.005 m

maximum stress σ = 200 N/mm^2 = 2*10^{8}  N/m^{2}

maximum stress allowed on material σ = force/area

imputing values,

200 = 2000/area

area = 2000/(2*10^{8}) = 10^{-5} m^2

recall that area = \pi d^{2} /4

10^{-5} = \frac{3.142*d^{2} }{4} = 0.7855d^{2}

d^{2} = \frac{10^{-5} }{0.7855} = 1.273*10^{-5}

d = \sqrt{1.273*10^{-5}  } = 3.57*10^{-3} m = 3.57 mm

<em>maximum diameter of  the steel linkage d = 3.57 mm</em>

amm1812

Answer:

X_cp = c/2

Explanation:

We are given;

Chord = c

Angle of attack = α

p u (s) = c 1

p1(s)=c2,

and c2 > c1

First of all, we need to find the resultant normal force on the plate and the total moment about leading edge.

Oliver is designing a new children’s slide to increase the speed at which a child can descend. His first design involved steel b
AVprozaik [17]

Answer:

The correct option is;

A) Steel becomes too hot in the Sun and can burn the children

Explanation:

The properties of steel includes;

Low specific heat capacity, high thermal and electrical toughness, high hardness, high tensile strength, high yield strength, appreciable elongation, high fatigue strength, can easily corrode, high malleability and ability to creep

Therefore, due to the low specific heat capacity, which is 0.511 J/(g·°C) and high conductivity of steel which is about 32 W/(m·k), the temperature of the steel can rapidly rise and the hot steel surface can readily conduct the heat, (due to the temperature difference) to other bodies that come in contact

A woodcutter wishes to cause the tree trunk to fall uphill, even though the trunk is leaning downhill. With the aid of the winch
Sedbober [7]

Answer:

The correct answer will be "400.4 N". The further explanation is given below.

Explanation:

The given values are:

Mass of truck,

m = 600 kg

g = 9.8 m/s²

On equating torques at the point O,

⇒  T\times Cos(10+5)\times (1.3+4)=mg\times Sin(5)\times 4

So that,

On putting the values, we get

⇒  T\times Cos(15^{\circ})\times 5.3=600\times 9.8\times Sin(5^{\circ})\times 4

⇒                             T=400.4 \ N
