Answer:

Explanation:

The text 'A Child of Slavery Who Taught a Generation' is the chronicle of the life of Anna J Cooper, a black American educationist who lived in the era of male chauvinism and slavery.

She was born as a slave to a white man who owned both she and her mother. Despite this personal challenge though, Anna Cooper, against all odds, rose the academic ladder to bag her Bachelors and Master's degrees, which at that time was exclusively for males.

She taught in a public school for black children where she insisted that her students study hard reading Maths and Science subjects and not just vocational subjects.

Her passion for education was such that whenever she noticed a child had a flair or aptitude to learn, she threw her entire weight in assisting that child achieve academic success by personal tutoring and mentoring.

This led to a professional challenge along the line as she was accused of having an affair with one of her male students. It became a full-blown scandal as it became front-page news on the tabloids.

The challenge led to her resigning her position in the school where she taught and relocating from the US to Paris, France where she bagged her PhD at the age of 66.

Bradbury is trying to show how this society is constantly bombarded with media. In this case, it's advertisements pounding them into a passive state. No one on the train is talking or interacting. They are just sitting listening to the advertisement like they are being brainwashed into buying denham's dentifrice. In contrast to this Montag is trying to read a passage from the Bible about letting go of material things (including Denham's dentifrice). This juxtaposition between the natural world and materialism further shows how society is so wrapped up in media that they are unaware of the world around them.

Ephraim shows contentious remarks against the degrading remarks of a certain politician
xenn [34]

Question:

Ephraim shows CONTENTIOUS remarks against the degrading remarks of a certain politician.

Identify the type of context clue (CONTENTIOUS) used in the statement above.

Answer:

The type of context clue left here is called Inference Clue. This type of clue prompts the reader to reach a conclusion on the meaning of the word by use of reason, logic and or evidence.

Explanation:

Context clues are pointers left by a writer in a sentence or a paragraph that helps the reader comprehend the contextual connotation of old, new or difficult words.

In the statement above, CONTENTIOUS is the "difficult" word. When we read the entirety of the sentence we can see that it was a response to action: that is, the degrading remarks of a certain politician.

Suffice it to say that based on the above, an avid reader would estimate that on the balance of probabilities, Ephraim's action was an equally corresponding and action of rebuttal.

It's is worthy of note to state that there, besides the one already mentioned above - inference clue, that there are various other kinds of context clues. They are:

 1. Definition Clues
 2. Example Clues
 3. Synonym Clues and
 4. Antonym clues.
