There are three major types of cells in the lymphoid tissues of the body. One category, the ____________, contains immunocompete

nt cells that are able to destroy or immobilize foreign substances in the body; these foreign substances are called ____________. The two varieties in this group are ______________ and _____________. The other class of protective cells are called _______________. These defend the body by engulfing, or ______________, foreign substances. The third cellular group are the _____________, fibroblast-like cells that form the stroma or framework of the lymphoid organs. Lymphoid tissue is specifically classified as a type of connective tissue called ____________. When lymphoid tissue is loosely packed, it is called ______________; when it is tightly packed into spherical masses, the arrangement is said to be ________________.

In one experiment, scientists raised mice in germ-free conditions so the mice lacked intestinal microbes. The mice were fed a lo
Luba_88 [7]

Answer:

The answers are:

1. initial composition of microbial community (controlled variable)

2. age of the mice (controlled variable)

3. change in body fat (dependent variable)

4. diet (independent variable)

5. weight gain (dependent variable)

6. final composition of the microbial community (controlled variable)

Explanation:

Before I go ahead to explain each of the choices of classification, let us define each of the different types of variable.

1. Independent variable: this is a variable that is under the control of the experimenter. It is made up of the factors that are being tested. In our example, the independent variables is; diet. The aim of the experiment is to study the effect of the type of diet on the mice. The diet can also be varied and assigned at will by the experiment.

2. Dependent variable: a dependent variable is one whose outcome is reliant on the effect of the changes in the independent variable. It is the factor to be measured. In our example, the factors that obey these definitions are; change in body fat and weight gain. these two factors depend on the types of diet taken by the mice, hence they are the factors to be measured.

3. Controlled variable: these are variables that are kept constant throughout the experiment to rule out biases, because they produce the same effect on the dependent variable as the independent variable and must be keep constant or uniform in the test groups. in our example, the factors that are controlled include; initial and final compositions of the microbial communities and the age of the mice, because the microbial composition if not uniform among the groups can cause  biases in how the diets are processed, and the age of the mice also must be uniform to avoid age-related differences in the processing of the diets

Medical tests were conducted to learn about drug-resistant tuberculosis. of 142 cases tested in new jersey, 9 were found to be d
KengaRu [80]
Phat1 = 9/142
Phat 2 = 5/268
Phat 3 14/410
Test statistics = (Phat 1 - Phat 2) / (Square root of (phat × (1- phat))
times the square root of (1/n1 + 1/n2))
Test statistics = 2.373
P- value = 2× (1- normal cdf (2.373, 0, 1))
= 0.0176
At the level of significance, there is difference between the proportion of drug-resistant wihtin the two states.

A situation where the bones are connected exclusively by ligaments, cords, or bands of fibrous tissue is a ________.
In-s [12.5K]

Answer:

Gomphosis

Explanation:

Fibrous Joints:

Fibrous joints are immovable or fixed joints because they have the characteristic that they do not move. These joints have collagen which is a white connective tissue and it help in connection with other tissues.

Fibrous joints are mainly three types called sutures, gomphosis and syndesmosis.

Suture:

Suture is one of the fibrous tissue which only present in skull called cranal suture. There is tiny amount of movement present it sutures for elasticity of skull.

Gomphosis:

Gomphosis is found in the tooth which bind tooth with tooth socket bone by periodontal ligament. This joint is completely immovable.

*Peridontal ligament is the fibrous tissue which is present between tooth and tooth socket.

Syndesmosis:

Syndesmosis is found between tibia and fibula joint which is joined or connected by connective tissue (ligament). This fibrous joint is slightly moveable.

Species A and species B are shown on the same branch of a branching tree. Species C is shown on a separate branch. All three spe
Alex73 [517]
That would mean that species A, B, and C all came from one tree. Species A and B would be closer related, and also resembling more of each other. While species C would be also related to species A and B but just not as close to either one.

So the answer would be: Species A and B would be most similar, while species C would be related to both species A and B but will have less similarities. <span />
