Answer:

Answer is option (2) and (4).

Prokaryotes that obtain both energy and carbon as they decomposes dead organisms - heterotroph and chemotroph.

Explanation:

(1) Autotrophs or Producers - Organisms that produce their own food and get the energy to make food from inorganic sources or sunlight. They are the base level of the energy pyramid of an ecosystem. The existence of all other organisms depends on autotrophs as they provide fuel for others. Examples of autotrophs are green algae, all plants, photosynthetic bacteria, etc.

(2) Heterotrophs or Consumers - Organisms that consume autotrophs or other heterotrophs since they cannot produce their own food. They absorb nutrition from other organic carbon sources such as plant or animal matter. The examples of heterotrophs are fungi, all animals, many protists and bacteria.

(3) Phototrophs - Organisms that capture photons from light and convert it to chemical energy to carry out different cellular processes.

  • Photoautotrophs (holophytic organisms) are autotrophs that carry out photosynthesis in which carbon dioxide and water are converted into organic compounds (glucose) using energy from sunlight. Plants, algae, photosynthetic bacteria are examples.
  • Photoheterotrophs depend on sunlight for their energy and produce ATP through photophosphorylation. Their source of carbon is organic compounds such as carbohydrates, fatty acids, etc obtained from the environment and do not rely on carbon dioxide. Examples include green non-sulfur bacteria, purple non-sulfur bacteria, heliobacteria, etc.

(4) Chemotrophs - Organisms that obtain energy by breaking down or oxidation of organic or inorganic molecules such as ammonia,  carbohydrates, molecular hydrogen, sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, ferrous iron, etc through chemosynthesis.

  • Chemoautotrophs synthesize organic compounds from carbon dioxide using the energy derived from chemical reactions. Most of them are found in deep water environments that receive no sunlight. Cyanobacteria, sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, iron-oxidizing bacteria, nitrogen-fixing bacteria, etc are examples.
  • Chemoheterotroph uses inorganic or organic energy sources as they can not synthesize their own organic compounds. Chemolithoheterotroph uses inorganic energy sources (sulfur, ferrous iron, etc) and chemoorganoheterotroph uses organic energy sources (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, etc). Examples of chemoheterotrophs include most fungi and animals.

You are operating a powerboat at night. Your red sidelight must be visible to boats approaching from which direction(s)?
Degger [83]
I believe the answer is head-on and port (left). The side lights are usually visible to vessels approaching from the front or the side. The red light usually indicates a vessel's port (left) side while the green light indicates a vessel's starboard (right) side. These lights ensure that there is safety at night as the vessels navigate.

Why does a coastal area have less variation in temperature than a noncoastal area?
marshall27 [118]

Answer: Coastal areas have moderate temperature because the land absorbs and radiates heat much faster than sea. So, during the day cool air from sea rush towards the land and during night cool air from the land rush towards sea

when lions pick off the slowest members of the herd they are hunting why is it beneficial to the group as a whole?
pav-90 [236]
If lions attack the slowest animal in a herd, it is beneficial to the herd in the following ways:

1.) Evolutionarily, the faster herd members survive and breed, increasing the speed of the offspring and guaranteeing better survival for the future population.
2.) The lions focus on the straggling animal, allowing the rest of the herd to escape.
3.) The death of one herd member ensures the survival of many more.

Which of the following does not correctly describe basic regulation of digestive activity?
shusha [124]

The correct answer is: b. conscious neural control

Neural control of digestive tract is unconscious achieved via the autonomic nervous system.

Local nervous system of the digestive system is called the enteric or intrinsic nervous system. The major components of this nervous system are two networks or plexuses of neurons:

• The myenteric plexus – controls digestive tract motility

• The submucous plexus - regulates gastrointestinal blood flow and controls epithelial cell function.

What problem would most likely to occur if a haploid cell attempted to perform meiosis? the cell could not replicate its dna pri
Cerrena [4.2K]

The answer is; the cell could not pair homologous chromosomes during meiosis.

For meiosis to occur, the sister chromosomes pairs line up in the metaphase-plate so that each chromosome of the pair is pulled to the opposite pole by the spindle in anaphase. Therefore, meiosis can only occur in cells with normal ploidy so the ploidy halved by meiosis.
