Imagine that a couple is planning to have children. The male is heterozygous for tongue rolling and homozygous dominant for unat

tached earlobes. The female is homozygous recessive for tongue rolling and heterozygous for unattached earlobes. The couple is curious about the possibility and probability of their offspring inheriting these traits. The ability to roll ones tongue is dominant (R) over the “non-rolling” condition (r.) Unattached earlobes (U) are dominant over attached earlobes (u) Complete a Punnett square for this cross and record the probabilities for genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring as ratios.

Answer:

F1 generation: RrUu, rrUU, rrUu, RrUU

                               25% : 25%: 25%: 25%

Ratios

  • genotype:              1: 1: 1: 1   ...(from punnet square)
  • phenotype:               1 : 1

Explanation:

Punnett squares are a diagrammatic way of deciding the characteristics of hybrid offspring created by crosses in genetic breeding. Parental genotypes and phenotypes are widely recognized, and all usually obey normal Mendelian ratios and inheritance.

Mendelian genetics focuses on the origin or heritability of characteristics. Such traits are packed into one's own gamete, acquired by themselves, and sometimes display superiority, where one's impact can mask those of another trait.

These are called the Law of Segregation, Independent assortment and Dominance respectively.

For this cross...  Assuming:

Unattached lobes= dominant

  • Rolling tongue= dominant
  • Parent generation or P generation:

Gametes:

R → rolling dominant (R), non-rolling recessive (r)

U → unattached dominant (U), attached recessive (u)

P generation:                          RUrU× rUru

                       rolling, unattached  × non-rolling, unattached

F1 generation: RrUu, rrUU, rrUu, RrUU

                               25% : 25%: 25%: 25%

Ratios

  • genotype:              1: 1: 1: 1   ...(from punnet square)
  • phenotype:               1 : 1

Half the offspring have unattached lobes and can roll their tongues while the other half have unattached lobes and cannot roll their tongues...

Each punnet cross is attached below

The NET reproduction per individual per unit time (r) is _____ per mouse per month in a population of 1,000 mice where 500 mice
Phantasy [73]

Answer:

0.1

Explanation:

The Net Reproduction per individual per unit time (r) can be calculated as (births-deaths)/population size

Given that:

Population size of mice = 1,000; Birth = 500; Death = 400,

Net reproduction rate (r) = (births-deaths)/population size

r = (500 – 400)/1000

r = 100/1000

r = 0.1

The Net reproduction per individual per unit time (r) is 0.1

Why does it make metabolic sense for the same hormone signal to stimulate glycogenolysis and inhibit glycolysis in the liver whi
Debora [2.8K]

This is because if the two  metabolic processes were to be  active at at the same time;

Two molecules of ATPs and Guanosine triphophate (sometimes used for energy transport) will be expended per each cycle, with no compensatory rate of replacements present at the moment in the cell,this affects cell metabolism for energy availability

2 Both Glycolysis and Gluconeogensis are both exergonic processes in cells. The heat energy liberated from these Calorinogenic effects will be higher than what the natural thermodynamic barrier of cells can withstand. Consequently; the heat will raise temperature of the cells affecting metabolic activities of hormones and enzymes which are (proteins) ,and easily denature by high temperatures.

However, in muscles cells,gluconeogeneis is a compensasory process of Glycolysis. This because during active exercise with high metabolic demand in muscles cells, glucose is rapidly metabolise to to pyruvate,(but not at the rate that the Citric acid cycle can metabolise) for Lactic acid production by muscles cells for energy production. Pyruvate must be broken down rapidly so that NAD+ will be available for Glycolysis to continue. Therefore to sustain Glycolysis at this rate continuous supply of glucose is supplied from Gluconeogenesis.
