It is also giving the readers the mood like something is falling down and it is getting more silence. People can have feel of tranquility and calmness while reading something that is having a mellow mood or effect on them. The word ''mellow'' is also used when people are describing that the more they are getting older, the less they are aggressive or short tempered.
