A random sample of 64 credit sales in a department store showed an average sale of $75.00. From past data, it is known that the

standard deviation of the population of sales is $24.00.
1. Construct the 96% confidence interval for the population mean and provide the lower and upper bound of the confidence interval.
2. Assume that the information about average sales was lost. You decided to repeat the study and collect information for another sample. This time you obtain a random sample of 400 sales which accidentally resulted in the same average sale of $75.00. Construct the 96% confidence interval for the population mean and provide the lower and upper bound of the confidence interval.

Answer:

a) 75-2.054\frac{24}{\sqrt{64}}=68.838

75+2.054\frac{24}{\sqrt{64}}=81.162

So on this case the 96% confidence interval would be given by (68.838;81.162)

b) 75-2.054\frac{24}{\sqrt{400}}=72.535

75+2.054\frac{24}{\sqrt{400}}=77.465

So on this case the 96% confidence interval would be given by (72.535;77.465)

Step-by-step explanation:

Previous concepts

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

\bar X= 75 represent the sample mean

\mu population mean (variable of interest)

\sigma=24 represent the population standard deviation

n=64 represent the sample size

Part a

The confidence interval for the mean is given by the following formula:

\bar X \pm z_{\alpha/2}\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}   (1)

Since the Confidence is 0.96 or 96%, the value of \alpha=0.04 and \alpha/2 =0.02, and we can use excel, a calculator or a table to find the critical value. The excel command would be: "=-NORM.INV(0.02,0,1)".And we see that z_{\alpha/2}=2.054

Now we have everything in order to replace into formula (1):

75-2.054\frac{24}{\sqrt{64}}=68.838

75+2.054\frac{24}{\sqrt{64}}=81.162

So on this case the 96% confidence interval would be given by (68.838;81.162)

Part b

75-2.054\frac{24}{\sqrt{400}}=72.535

75+2.054\frac{24}{\sqrt{400}}=77.465

So on this case the 96% confidence interval would be given by (72.535;77.465)

Olivia and ray walk to school. olivia walks 1\4 of a mile to school. her walks is 2\3 of the distance that ray walks to school.
Pepsi [2]
We know that

<span>Olivia walks ---------> 1\4 of a mile to school
</span>
2/3   correspond to ------> 0.6666------> 66.67 %
3/3 correspond to--------> 1--------> 100%
so
if  (2/3)-----------> 1/4 mile
 (3/3)-------------> x
x=(1/4)/(2/3)-----> x=(1/4)*3/2-----> x=3/8------> x-0.375 miles

the answer is
<span>Ray walks to school 3/8 miles (0.375 miles)</span>

write three sentences contrasting the federalist and anti-federalist viewpoints on separation of powers in the constitution. def
timofeeve [1]

Answer:

Federalists were the group of people who believed in and fought for the ratification of the <em>United States Constitution</em>, while Anti-Federalists did not favor the ratification of the United States Constitution. Anti-Federalists appreciated the Articles of Confederation more and favored the U.S. Government having very limited powers, or having no power at all. For this reason, Federalists compromised with Anti-Federalists to draft a <em>Bill of Rights</em>, which lists the ten inalienable rights of any U.S. Citizen regardless.

Separation of Powers was a principle established in our government which is the reason for why the Judicial, Legislative, and Executive Branch exist. Separation of Powers was a way to make sure the government did not have too much power in one area than another, allowing them to keep each other in check from enacting abusive orders or actions.

From generation to generation, the mean age when smokers first start to smoke varies. However, the standard deviation of that ag
Jlenok [28]

Answer:

If we compare the p value and the significance level given for example \alpha=0.05 we see that p_v so we can conclude that we to reject the null hypothesis, and the the actual mean starting age of smokers is significantly lower than 19.

Step-by-step explanation:

1) Data given and notation

\bar X=18.1 represent the mean age when smokers first start to smoke varies

s=1.3 represent the standard deviation for the sample

\sigma=2.1 represent the population standard deviation

n=37 sample size

\mu_o =5.7 represent the value that we want to test

\alpha represent the significance level for the hypothesis test.

t would represent the statistic (variable of interest)

p_v represent the p value for the test (variable of interest)

State the null and alternative hypotheses.

We need to conduct a hypothesis in order to determine if the mean starting age is at least 19, the system of hypothesis would be:

Null hypothesis:\mu\geq 19

Alternative hypothesis:\mu < 19

We know the population deviation, so for this case is better apply a z test to compare the actual mean to the reference value, and the statistic is given by:

z=\frac{\bar X-\mu_o}{\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}} (1)

z-test: "Is used to compare group means. Is one of the most common tests and is used to determine if the mean is (higher, less or not equal) to an specified value".

Calculate the statistic

We can replace in formula (1) the info given like this:

z=\frac{18.1-19}{\frac{2.1}{\sqrt{37}}}=-2.607

Calculate the P-value

Since is a one-side lower test the p value would be:

p_v =P(z

Conclusion

If we compare the p value and the significance level given for example \alpha=0.05 we see that p_v so we can conclude that we to reject the null hypothesis, and the the actual mean starting age of smokers is significantly lower than 19.

Otrada [13]

Answer:

The square root of terms separated by addition and subtraction cannot be calculated individually.

Step-by-step explanation:

In order to calculate the square root, we would need a monomial or a factored expression.  We do not have that, so we cannot take the square root.
