Overfishing of stocks of fish species, like salmon and cod, in an effort to meet a growing global demand has become an internati

onal concern. A recent estimate indicates that the average annual consumption of fish globally in 2014 was about twice the consumption in 1960. Because of increased concerns about the impact of overfishing, fishery managers are looking for ways to protect wild populations while still satisfying global demand for food for human consumption. Which of the following techniques could best reduce the harmful effects of overfishing if it were to be widely adopted by the fishing industry?
A. Increased use of large-mesh gill nets for harvesting salmon and trout.
B. Greater reliance on bottom trawling in coastal waters for harvesting shrimp and sole.
C. Increased use of long-line fishing techniques in the open ocean for harvesting swordfish and halibut.
D. Widespread application of cyanide in tropical waters for harvesting tuna and cod.

Answer:

Option A, Increased use of large-mesh gill nets for harvesting salmon and trout.

Explanation:

Overfishing usually lead to catching of young and fertile salmon and trout. These young fishes are responsible for producing more young salmon and trout. Since they get entrapped easily in small sized mesh wire net, they could not reproduce due to which the number of salmon and trout killed becomes higher than the number of salmon and trout reproduced.

Using large mesh sized net will only capture bigger fish which do not contribute much to the future generation, thereby catering present demand along with making way for meeting out future demands as well.

Hence, option A is correct

Define Erikson's notions of hope, will, and purpose. How do these relate to the first three stages of social development in Erik
hjlf

Answer:

Erickson speaks of faith, will and intention as the values of multiple periods of life. He gave an eight-stage features of individual growth through infancy until death. He stated that a confrontation characterises each period of development and if this disagreement is settled effectively, the person will evolve as a virtuous person. The 'confidence vs. mistrust' is regarded as his first period in life.

The increasing person creates schemes about the capabilities he has after the effective accomplishment of each phase of life. If the substantial others take charge of the phases of life quite well, so the principles of that phase are established in him.

Occasionally, an episode of food poisoning occurs which centers around processed ham, sausage, or salted pork. These episodes ar
Tamiku [17]

Answer:

Explanation:

Staphylococcus aureus is a bacteria that causes food poisoning and a range of other diseases. Staphylococcal food poisoning is due to the consumption of a toxin produced by S. aureus. The toxin is usually preformed in the food, which means, one need not ingest the bacteria before developing food poisoning.

An important characteristic of the toxin is that it is heat stable. Although the bacteria itself is not heat stable, once it grows in the food and produces the toxin, heat treatment is no longer effective, because even though the bacteria will be killed off, the toxin will remain.

Another characteristic of S. aureus is that it can tolerate high amounts of salt.

S. aureus is also a normal flora of the skin, so it is almost always present on the skin of animals used as meat.

Because the bacteria is salt tolerant, and its toxin is heat stable, it is often the culprit in foods that have been processed with heat and/or by curing (salting), as is the case with processed ham, sausage and salted pork.
