David is a sophomore in high school and is studying for his United States history exam, in which he must recall all of the battl

es in the American Revolutionary War. At first, he begins by just trying to group all of the facts associated with each battle into his memory. When he realizes he is forgetting some battles, he begins repeatedly associating the events that occurred in each battle with the place where the battle occurred. He finds he remembers the battles more readily this way, but he is still having a hard time remembering all the facts associated with each battle. Because he continues to think this is the best way to approach learning, he continues to study in this manner. After several bad grades, he realizes that his studying technique is not working, so he asks a friend who is doing better at remembering everything how she is studying. She said she is making up stories about each battle and how each battle is connected with other battles. David tries this method and finds it was much more effective for him.
Explain how each of the following concepts relates to this scenario.

Metacognition
Method of loci
Deep processing
Rehearsal
Elaboration

Answer:

Metacognition

Method of loci

Deep processing

Rehearsal

Elaboration

Chunking

Mental set

Explanation:

1.) Metacognition refers to one's awareness of and ability to regulate one's own thinking. David had this awareness that he has difficulty remembering what he had studied. He was reminding himself that he should try to remember all battles he had studied.

2.) The method of loci David employed, is a strategy of memory enhancement in which at first, he began by just trying to group all of the facts associated with each battle into his memory in order to enhance the recall of information. On David memory journey, or palace, he tried three different mind palace technique.

3.) David Deep processing enabled him to start repeatedly associating the events that occurred in each battle with the place where the battle occurred which created a much stronger memory trace.

4.) David personally drill himself by rehearsing what he had read in preparation for the examination

5.) David initial method of loci was unable to elaborate the details of wars. And lack the process of developing or presenting a system for further detail.

6.) Chunking refers to an approach David took for making more efficient use of short-term memory by asking his friend for better method of loci. David new Chunking was to making up stories about each battle and how each battle is connected with other battles into units or chunks. The resulting chunks are easier to commit to memory than rehearsing a longer one.

7.) David will surely create a new Mental set toward his studies. When he tried his friend method and found it to be much more effective.

He will have a tendency to approach any other subjects the same way because that way worked in the past

In the context of the fifth paragraph of the passage, the comment by Shiraj, “They think you are an Englishman,” suggests a conf
zepelin [54]

Answer:

The answer is Native Bengalis and English rule

Explanation:

The fifth paragraph addresses how the Bengali people are ruled by the English but have little actual contact with them. Shiraj and Altaf’s amusement at Altaf’s being mistaken for an Englishman reflects their awareness of the significant cultural differences between the two groups and of the conflict those differences imply. Although Altaf is Bengali and is returning home, at this moment he embodies some of this conflict within his own person: “no one would expect a Bengali man” to arrive in a motorboat as he does, and he looks and dresses like an Englishman or European despite the fact that he “would have been more comfortable travelling in a lungi.”

European cities and contemporary Aztec cities most likely differed in which of the following ways?
Romashka [77]

Answer:

The answer is C.

Explanation:

Answer A and D talked about the size of the cities and according to the passage, it didn't mention about the size comparison between the Aztec cities and European cities. Answer B is not correct because it didn't mention about the people having diseases nor it didn't describe the cities as being dirty. Here's a clue to the question. "They then gave such an account of the magnificence and splendour of his court", "great strength of his metropolis",  "several causeways, they added, led to this city, which were intersected in various places, over which wooden bridges were built, under which canoes could pass; but, if they were removed, the space between every two sections became an island, and all entrance to the town was completely cut off",  "balconies were attached to each house, which were provided with a kind of breastwork, so that the inhabitants were able to defend themselves from the tops of the houses. Yet the whole town was well supplied with sweet water from the spring of Chapultepec, which lay about two miles from the town, whence the water was partly conveyed to the houses by means of pipes, partly in boats through the canals, and then retailed to the inhabitants.”  Based on the quotations, you can see that it said about how organized the Aztecs were in terms of civil infrastructure making C the correct answer. Remember the infrastructure involves design, analysis, and management of infrastructure supporting human activities, including, for example, electric power, oil and gas, water and wastewater, communications, transportation, and the collections of buildings that make up urban and rural communities.
