Maxwell Manufacturing makes two models of felt tip marking pens. Requirements for each lot of pens are given below. Fliptop Mode

l Tiptop Model Available Plastic 3 4 36 Ink Assembly 5 4 40 Molding Time 5 2 30 The profit for either model is $1000 per lot. 1. What is the linear programming model for this problem? 2. Find the optimal solution. 3. Will there be excess capacity in any resource?

Answer:

Step 1

Let us assume that x1 amount of Fliptop and x2 amount of Tiptop models are produced, then the objective function is to maximize profitability with the constraints on the production limited by the available plastic, ink and time. Hence the LP model is given by the objective function and the three constraints as shown below:

Objective function ($) (OF):                maximize z = 1000x1 + 1000x2

Plastic material constraint ( Eqn. 1): 3x1 + 4x2 <= 36

Ink material constraint (Eqn. 2):         5x1 + 4x2 <= 40

Time constraint (Eqn. 3):                    5x1 + 2x2 <= 30

Non negativity constraints:                 x1, x2 >= 0

Step 2

Since it is a 2 variable problem it can be solved graphically or using a model solver such as MS-Excel ®. The feasible region is defined by the corner points (boundary points) A, B, C, D, E and the boundary lines of the constraint equations 1,2,3 and the objective function OF as shown in the diagram.

The coordinates and the OF values at the corner points are given below:

A (0,0); OF = 0 (intersection of non-negativity constraints)

B (6,0); OF = 6000 (intersection of x2=0 and eqn 3)

C (4,5); OF = 9000 (intersection of eqn 2 and 3)

D (2, 7.5); OF = 9500 (intersection of eqn 1 & 2)

E (0,9); OF= 9000 (intersection of x1=0 and eqn 1)

Step 3

Hence the optimal solution is given by the point D where the OF equation touches the feasible region with the maximum value. There is an excess of 5 units of molding time available.

Earl Miller, owner of a Papa Gino's franchise, wants to buy a new delivery truck in 6 years. He estimates the truck will cost $3
Studentka2010 [4]

Answer:

  • <u><em>No, he will not have enough money to buy his delivery truck at the end of 6 years.</em></u>

Explanation:

To find how much<em> money Earl Mille</em>r, <em>owner of Papa Gino's franchise</em>, will have in <em>6 years</em>, you must calculate the value of the <em>$20,000</em> that he <em>invests</em> at the <em>5% compounded semiannually:</em>

  • Semianual compounded interest: 5% / 2 = 0.05/2 = 0.025

Equation:

  • Value=Investment\times (1+r/n)^{(n\times t)}

Where r/n was already calculated: r/n = 0.05/2 = 0.025; and t is the number of years: 6.

        Value=\$20,000\times (1+0.025)^{(2\times 6)}\\\\Value=\$26,899.78

Hence the value of the money invested is less than the value of the truck, and <em>he will not have enough money to buy his delivery truck at the end of 6 years.</em>

Vaughn Corporation acquires a coal mine at a cost of $460,000. Intangible development costs total $115,000. After extraction has
Elenna [48]

Answer:

Depletion expense A/c Dr $84,525

       To Accumulated depletion A/c

(Being the depletion expense for the first year is recorded)

Explanation:

The journal entry is presented below:

Depletion expense A/c Dr $84,525

       To Accumulated depletion A/c

(Being the depletion expense for the first year is recorded)

The computation is shown below

First we have to compute the depletion per ton which is calculated below:

= (Acquired cost of coal mine + Intangible development costs + fair value of the obligation - Sale value) ÷ (Number of estimated tons of coal extracted)

= ($460,000 + $115,000 + $92,000 - $184,000) ÷ (4,600 tons)

= $105

Now if 805 tons are extracted in first year, so the depletion would be

= 805 tons × $105

= $84,525

Identify an element of a successful persuasive tweet.
Sever21 [200]

Many companies use blogs and tweets to help develop a positive online presence.

Option B : To fit in all the AIDA elements, break a longer message into a multi-part tweet.

Explanation:

Websites and Twitter accounts of businesses are strong marketing resources which can help to portray an optimistic and knowledgeable presence online.

The concepts underneath AIDA even now relate to micro-names, even though you likely won't use the complete, four-part plan. Using catching and interesting interest recipients, and seek to always have a call for action. Do not spread endless retweets, numerous tweets, or other things that are more distressing to your viewers than they receive.

Choose all the scenarios below that would cause a decrease in the supply of labor in the agricultural industry.
Alika [10]

Answer:

  • b. As the population in the United States ages, fewer workers have the physical ability to work in the industry.
  • d. Due to global warming, working conditions on farms have become undesirable for more and more people.
  • e. The adoption of strict immigration laws reduces the number of legal and illegal immigrants in the United States.
  • h. New machinery is replacing workers in the harvesting of crops.

Explanation:

With workers getting older and being unable to be as productive as they used to be, they will have to drop out of industries that require physical strength including farming. This will therefore reduce people working in agriculture.

With global warming having made working in the fields much more harsh, people are avoiding careers that would keep them outdoors including farming which has led to a drop in the labor supply for agriculture.

A significant portion of workers in agriculture are immigrants so when immigration laws limit the number of immigrants coming in, labor supply in agriculture will reduce.

New machinery reduces the need for workers in agriculture so the more they are bought, the less workers are needed. This will therefore directly reduce the number of people working in agriculture.

Answer:

Premium is likely to be $180.00

Explanation:

Two players have 40%  chance of slipping

Equally,two players have 20% chance of slipping

bruise cost per slip is $150

Premium=40% chance of slipping*bruise cost*2 players +20% chance of slipping*bruise cost*2 players

Premium=40%*$150*2+20%*$150*2

Premium=0.4*$150*2+0.2*$150*2

premium=$60*2+$30*2

premium=$120+$60

premium=$180.00

If the insurance company offers bruise insurance to the players ,the premium is likely to be in the region of $180.00
