Swagger Corporation purchases potatoes from farmers. The potatoes are then peeled, producing two intermediate products-peels and

depeeled spuds. The peels can then be processed further to make a cocktail of organic nutrients. And the depeeled spuds can be processed further to make frozen french fries. A batch of potatoes costs $48 to buy from farmers and $14 to peel in the company's plant. The peels produced from a batch can be sold as is for animal feed for $30 or processed further for $19 to make the cocktail of nutrients that are sold for $50. The depeeled spuds can be sold as is for $41 or processed further for $30 to make frozen french fries that are sold for $62.
Required:

a. Assuming that no other costs are involved in processing potatoes or in selling products, how much money does the company make from processing one batch of potatoes into the cocktail of organic nutrients and frozen french fries?
b. Should each of the intermediate products, peels and depeeled spuds, be sold as is or processed further into an end product?

Answer:

(a) $1

(b)  NO, Because it results in a loss of $9

Explanation:

As per the data given in the question,

a)

Sales value ($62+$50) $112

Less: Total costs

Potatoes cost $48

Peeling cost $14

Cost of further processing peels $19

Cost of further depeeled spuds $30

Profit ($112-$48-$19-$14-$30) $1

b)

Cocktail of organic nutrients = Yes, Because it results in a profit of $1 ($50-$19-$30)

Frozen french fries = NO, Because it results in a loss of $9 ($62-$41-$30)

An all-equity firm is considering the following projects:
FromTheMoon [43]

Answer:

Projects Y and Z

b. Projects W and Z

c. Projects W and Y

Explanation:

CAPM equation : Expected return = Risk free rate + Beta x (Expected market return - Risk free rate)

W = 4% + [0.85 x (11% - 4%)] = 9.95%

X = 4% + (0.92 x 7%) = 10.44%

Y = 4% + (1.09 x 7%) = 11.63%

Z = 4% + (1.35 x 7%) = 13.45%

Projects Y and Z have an expected return greater than 11%

b. Projects W and Z should be accepted because its expected return is higher than the IRR

c. Project W would be incorrectly rejected because the expected rate of return is less than the overall cost of capital (i.e. 9.95 is less than 11). But its expected rate of return is greater than the IRR

Y would be incorrectly accepted because its expected rate of return is greater  than the overall cost of capital but its expected rate of return is less than the IRR

Elan Coil [88]

Answer:

Bob’s ad will appear if search terms contain at least all three of the keywords or variations of those terms.

Explanation:

Bob’s ad will appear if search terms contain at least all three of the keywords or variations of those terms.: Adding a + sign in front of a keyword turns it into a broad match modifier. This prompts your ads to appear only if the keyword or its close variations are in any part of the search terms.

If Bob uses the broad match modifier keywords “television,” “accessible,” and “voice.” His ads will appear for people searching for any combination of these terms in a search (and possibly including additional terms). However, the ads won’t appear if any one of these keywords aren’t in the search term.
