This is because, the person in question might end up losing on both sides. For example, a nurse practictioner who decided to leave his work to contest for a council post might end up losing both the election and the job.

4. How might it be wise?

It would be wise, in the sense that, pursing uncertainty is the only way to actualise one's dream. For example, someone willing to effect changes in his State might leave his job inorder to contest for an elective post.

Winning the election would now be able to afford him the opportunity to contribute in the society despite sacrificing his or her job.
