The examples of complex sentences are the following ones:

2)Before you eat the sandwich, please cut in half

A complex sentence is a sentence which has one independent clause and at least one dependent clause. Dependent clauses cannot stand on their own since they do not represent a complete thought.  This is why the following sentences are not grammatically correct.
