Answer:

B. The Putnams accuse Giles Corey’s wife after a land dispute, and the court does not accept Giles’s evidence in her defense.

Explanation:

Because of a personal dispute over lands, the Putnams took advantage of the fear and paranoia of the town to accuse Giles Corey's wife of witchcraft. Which is a great example of the author's theme: Personal conflicts lead to societal conflicts.

Answer:

Odysseus has all of the qualifications as an epic leader. He is wise, and determined.

" I had touched the spot when sudden fear stayed me: if I killed him we perished there as well, for we could never move his ponderous doorway slab aside. So we were left to groan and wait for morning."

Write one to three sentences explaining how the word ""swim"" adds to the idea that the turtle ""can’t see herself apart from th
Lana71 [14]

Answer and Explanation:

"The Turtle" is a poem by author Mary Oliver in which a beautiful and sacred action is described. The speaker is delighted by a turtle laying her eggs in the sand, patiently, full of a drive no one - not even the turtle herself - knows where it comes from. T<u>he speaker also draws attention to the fact that the turtle is unaware of itself as an individual. She sees herself as the world, and world as herself, all things converging to keep life going:</u>

<em>she is a part of the pond she lives in, </em>

<em>the tall trees are her children, </em>

<em>the birds that swim above her </em>

<em>are tied to her by an unbreakable string.</em>

<u>The word choice in this stanza is particularly interesting. The author chose to say that the birds "swim" above the turtle. That serves to enhance the sense of connectedness. There is no difference between the turtle and the birds. They all fly; they all swim; they are all a part of the world, and the world itself. Even though they may appear different, they belong together in nature, completing the gorgeous mosaic of life. "Swim" only helps convey this beautiful idea that the turtle "can't see herself apart from the rest of the world."</u>

Marianna [84]

A subject-verb agreement error occurs when the number (whether or not something is singular or plural) of the subject does not “agree” with the number of the verb.  For instance, if a subject is singular, the verb should be singular as well, and this is known as “agreeing.”  If the subject is singular, but the verb is plural, then this is known as a subject-verb agreement error (or subject-verb disagreement).  Below, the agreement errors have been corrected to the proper number and appear in bold.

"This new technology is for everyone and will revolutionize the lives of millions of ordinary commuters. Cheaper than concrete or tarmac but just as durable, the new cycling paths absorb light and re-emit it when they sense that it is required. They're one hundred percent environmentally-friendly. The inventor, however, is less forthcoming when our conversation turns to how the product actually works. Despite a barrage of questions, the only thing he will admit to is that the key to this techno-wonder is a combination of recycled tires (what else?) and a specially formulated light-emitting powder that charges during the day and glows at night."
