In many states, the legal limit for all bacteria present in pasteurized milk is not to exceed 20,000 CFU/mL. You have been away

on vacation and left an unopened plastic jug of milk in your refrigerator. The "Sell By" date was three days ago. Instead of throwing it out, you decide to test it using your eScience Microbiology Kit. Here are your results for a "countable" plate in your serial dilutions: 186 colonies on a plate where the dilution factor was 1 x 10-4 and the volume that you plated was 1 mL. (20 points)
a. How many bacteria are present in 1 mL of this milk?
b. Is this milk safe to drink by Public Health standards?

Answer:

a. The formula for finding the number of colonies in a given volume is,

CFU/ml, here CFU is the colony forming units or the number of colonies formed in a volume plated in ml × dilution

The dilution factor given in the question is 1 × 10⁻⁴ and the number of colonies given is 186. Therefore, the number of bacteria present in the given 1 ml of the milk is,

CFU/ ml = 186 / 1 × 10⁻⁴ = 186 × 10⁴.

Hence, the concentration of bacteria in the milk is 186 × 10⁴ CFU/ml.

b) The limit of the bacterial concentration in the pasteurized milk is 20000 CFU/ml, however, it can be seen that the sample of the milk possess more concentration of bacteria than the desired value. Therefore, the milk is not safe to drink by Public Health Standards.

Cross bridge formation between myosin heads and actin molecules is caused by the elevation of calcium ion concentration in the c
Naily [24]

Answer:

by the sarcoplasmic reticulum's calcium ion pumps

Explanation:

Rigor mortis or postmortem rigidity, is a state caused by chemical changes in the muscles that occur post mortem and  cause the limbs of the corpse to stiffen.

This occurs because after death, there is no cellular respiration and consequently, no oxygen nor ATP (ATP is required for the muscle relaxation).

Calcium enters the cytosol after death because it is released due to the deterioration of the sarcoplasmic reticulum and due to the breakdown of the sarcolemma. Ca2+ ions activate the formation of actin-myosin cross-bridging necessary for the contraction. Muscles are unable to relax, because myosin heads continue to bind with the active sites of actin and there is no ATP to destabilize the myosin-actin bond.

Name the three molecules that are illustrated in Model 1.
FromTheMoon [43]

Answer:

Pentanol, glucose and fatty acid.

Explanation:

Pentanol, glucose and fatty acid are the three molecules which are present in  the given model number 1. In the model, there are three different molecular diagrams for each molecule. The first one is ball and stick model, the second one is Lewis structure and the third one is line drawing method. All diagrams for a same molecule is totally different from another.

What process is responsible for building successive rock layers on Earth?
mixas84 [53]
The correct option is deposition.
Deposition is the process by which sediments, soils and rocks are added to a particular rock which result in successive layers in the rock. Deposition is usually brought about by the action of wind, water, ice and gravity. These forces brings on sediments which are added to the rock layers.

Plants, such as sunflowers, contain specialized receptor cells that respond to light and grow in the direction of a light source
loris [4]
Photoreceptor proteins are light-sensitive proteins involved in the sensing and response to light in a variety of organisms. Some examples are rhodopsin in the photoreceptor cells of the vertebrate retina, phytochrome in plants, and bacteriorhodopsin<span> and bacteriophytochromes in some bacteria.
